View Full Version : First day...and I'm lonely!

Today is Brendon's first day of work at his summer job. He left at 9 this morning and gets off around 4. How can I miss him already!?! I need to get a job, but I'm trying to find something that's not stressful so I'm being a little picky. I've done the fast food thing and the waitress thing, and I don't really want to go back to that type of work. It's just so stressful (even though serving is good money). I applied at Target, Blockbuster, and all of our local pharmacies. I have pharmacy experience, and I'd love doing that, but it seems that most of the places I've talked to aren't hiring right now. I thought I would have a job with the pharmacy I've worked at for the past few summers, but they just didn't have any openings this year. They were really sweet and told me they would give me a super reference, but I am still a little sad. It's been a long time since I've done the whole job search thing. The pharmacy always needed me when I needed a job in the past. I can't wait till I graduate and have a degree and this becomes easier.
Oh, I also found out that East TN laid off 160 DCS employees because of budget cuts. I don't know if this will be good or bad for me in a year when I apply. Technically, if they don't hire me (through no fault of my own), I don't have to pay back my scholarship (2 years of working for them) and so all that money will have been free, but I'm just worried that they'll find a loop hole and I'll have to pay it back. I just don't want to be $20,000 in debt and without a job that I was pretty much guaranteed.
I am just so worried and lonely.

Thanks Kat! I can take the puppies for a walk around my neighborhood, but I can't take them to the park cause Bren took my car this morning (and his is 5-speed which I'm scared to drive on the roads, lol).
Is it bad that I'm counting down the minutes till he gets home? I'm pathetic.
1 hr. 13 minutes to go!

LOL, no this money is for summer bills. We don't get real money again until scholarship time in the fall.
How are you home already??

Awwwww, Angie, so glad you made it through such a difficult day.
I know you miss him, but enjoy the break. You've been super busy lately. You will know when it's time to find that job and the right one will be there, hopefully!!
Enjoy your evening!!!

No, you're not. This is going to sound so silly, but I used to climb a tree so I'd have a better view of my hubby's truck coming when I was waiting for him to come home from work. This goes way back to when we'd been married maybe 4 years. I just couldn't wait for him to get home. Before we had a yard with a big tree in front, we lived in a mobile home, and I'd stand on the 2x4 porch railing.
Now we both call each other when we are on our way home and if one runs a little later than we think they should we are calling. I can't tell you how many times hubby has called me just as I'm turning into the neighborhood or pulling into the driveway. Sorry, but even after almost 35 years, you can still feel the separation and long for their return.

Angie, I'm sure that the right job will come along. Since you have extra time right now why don't you plan some special candlelight suppers? That will keep you busy and you can still be excited about Brendon's return. Enjoy this time because soon enough you'll be busy again.
Marilyn, I can just picture you in a tree looking for your husband to turn the corner or on the front porch railing!!! How cute!!! I can't see my husband coming home but I always listen for his pickup.

That is so sweet Marilyn. I think this post made my day. :)

I can't make him a special dinner tonight because my sister has a ballet performance and has to be at school at 5, but I will definitely do that for tomorrow!

Awww Angie, there isn't anything wrong with you. You just love him! I've been married 20 years (next month) and I still get a thrill when Kenny walks through the door. He's working 2 jobs now and I HATE it so much....I see him for 15 minutes a day. I live for the weekends now because he's home. I hope you never lose that "missing him" feeling when you are apart.
As for the job, take it one day at a time. Don't stress about what will happen after graduation. There isn't anything you can do about it, so don't drive yourself crazy. Everything works out. Maybe not exactly how you expected it to, but it works out.

Thanks Teri. I heard that Kenny is having a hard time. Give him a hug from me and Brendon!
I'm sorry that you have so little time together right now. I think you deserve a picnic in the park, just the two of you, the very next day he has off! :D You two make me smile. It's so easy to tell that you are still madly in love. You'll make it through this difficult time and be even stronger because of it. *Hugs*

Mine works so hard here that when he sits down to watch tv after dinner, he falls asleep so I'm by myself anyway! (Well, except for the dogs, of course. Thank God for them.)
Terri's advice is right on. Things have a way of working out no matter how much we worry. You'll be fine, Angie.

half a day on mondays for the first eight weeks. We are considered "in training" until then and leave at noon so we are only part time.

I am so worried about this. i hate when my hubby works night shift at the job he has now. He will be starting where Brendon and i work on the twelth, but he will be working night shift while i work days. there is no way we could afford daycare for the four kids and still survive so this was our only option. now, When I walk in, he will leave. :( I'm so worried about how being apart will affect our marriage.

There's little things that you can do to let him know that you love him, even if you only see him briefly. Leave little notes all over the house for him. Put one on his pillow, on the bathroom mirror, in the shower, in the refrigerator, and in one of his clothes drawers. You can leave little gifts but notes are so cheap and easy to do. If you have any time where you can be together then enjoy your time together. You and he can do your chores when you're not together. You'll think of some little things to do, I'm sure. Use your imagination!!

Most of my growing up years my Mom worked 3-11 and Dad worked 11-7. Mom and Dad had those few hours in the morning when we went to school for themselves. I watched my sisters and brothers (once I got old enough) from 3-7. Families seem to work it out. I hope you find your special few hours together.
