I've often mentioned my father-in-laws dog, Jerry, and I finally got some pictures of him. He's an Irish Wolfhound and one of the most gentlest dogs I've ever been around!! My sister-in-law raises these and has Jerry's father who is about 225 lbs now. I think that Jerry's only a couple of years old. He's been losing that gangly puppy look and getting filled out.

Here's some more pictures to give you some perspective on his size! Keep in mind that I'm 5 inches shorter than my husband and when Jerry stretches his neck up we meet face to face!!!!

1. My husband and son with Jerry.

2. Jerry sitting.

3. Jerry standing on my husband's arms. Look how tall he is!!! My husband is 5'9 and Jerry could go even taller yet!

4. This is my nephew and his lab. See Jerry compared to the lab! It really looks funny when Reuger is outside with Jerry. Talk about a difference!!!

Diana!! I love Jerry! What a great looking dog. That is one huge canine...LOL. Did you guys inherit Jerry since your FIL passing? You'll just have to tell us more...llike...how do they handle the heat....the cold...do they prefer inside or outside.... What ever you know about these dogs....spill the beans girl!

Jerry is an outside dog only. He's really too big to have in the house. The heat and cold doesn't seem to bother him. My MIL wants to keep him even though she can't get out and feed him but the boys will do that when they stop to visit. I guess that my FIL told my son that he could have him if anything ever happened to him but MIL has a different opinion. I would love to have him too. He's such a sweet dog. The only thing is that he needs a lot of attention and he's big enough that you can't ignore him. He likes to get right beside you and lean on you to make you pet him.

The first Irish Wolfhound that my SIL had, Hickory, was protective of her and her son. She had a couple of stories about how her son, very young at the time, was protected. She lives in Nebraska and at least once a year she'll bring one home that's about to deliver. They must travel pretty good. I've never seen one that was mean, but I've only seen what my SIL has raised. They have really large litters and she flies them all over the United States. They have an organization, I believe, that limits how many times you can breed them and some stuff like that.

My brother-in-law had one that was the same age as Jerry but someone shot him. They found him laying in a field between our house and my FIL's. We never found out who it was but we were all pretty upset with who did it!

My FIL had one years ago named Ada and he really had worked with her. He would ask her "Ada, would you rather be Diana or be dead?" She would immediately fall to the ground to show that she'd rather be dead. Several people talked about her at the funeral and her picture was in with Franks photo video. I have a picture of Jaci when she was less than a year old sitting inside of Ada's legs while she sat still.

When my FIL would leave town for a few days Ada would show up at our house and lay in the driveway and cry. They have a very mournful cry too! He had another one that did that too but I can't remember his name. They do eat a lot but they are wonderful dogs and are great around kids.

Here's a picture of Jerry's father. I can't remember his name. We took this last year after we went 4-wheeling and stayed with my SIL for a few days on the way home.

That's what some Labradoodles are mistaken for... only they're FAR smaller.
That's a LOT of dog! They do have the same general coat and build I guess.

I love big dogs!
Thanks for sharing Diana, I enjoyed seeing the photos.

Omg, thank you for sharing! I love Jerry :1luvu:
I love the one of his eyes, he looks so sincere, plus I think he kinda looks like a muppet in that one LOL

Correct me if I am wrong someone, but I believe this is the tallest breed in the world. Been a fan since I can remember...

Awesome pics Diana.

I love Irish Wolfhounds. Years ago I wanted to get one but the price was too high for me. So I got a Great Dane instead. Another wonderful breed.

I have always had large dogs, but the older I get, now I want me a little lap dog.

Jerry is a nice looking dog!!! They are called Gentle Giants too.

I really don't know the price, just what they sold for several years ago, but if you're interested I can find out or I can give you Brenda's number. She also raises miniature donkeys. The dogs and donkeys are about the same size!!!!

That's one thing I was thinking about, too. LOL It was bad enough when we had a lab.
