HOCKEY TIME!!!!!! :D I just went to my city's WHL (western hockey league) team's season opener. My roommate and I walked in and just started salivating at the smell of all the rink food. I had to comment "How Canadian of us!" lol! I couldn't resist the greasy onion rings.
To be honest, the game wasn't that good. Okay it was terrible. We lost 8-2 :( But in our defense, 4 or 5 of the star players, including the main goalie, have been drafted and are in NHL training camps. But it was still a hockey game and it got me kind of excited for the season :)
Does anyone else here like hockey at all? I pretty much grew up in a rink, with me taking figure skating lessons, and later giving figure skating lessons, and my older brother playing hockey. I can't wait to someday have little boys and be a hockey mom :D

Yes! I like hockey! We had a very low level pro team in Austin (hard to imagine - sometimes it is so HOT outside when they start the season). It was really fun to watch though. I didn't think I'd like it because I don't like to watch it on TV, but a game in person was really fun!!!

I think the team moved from Austin because they couldn't get a new rink built, but I think a little town north of Austin may have built a rink and is getting a new team.

They were called the Austin Ice Bats :D (in honor of our HUGE Mexican free-tailed bat colony).

I've gone to a few Providence Bruins games - but I'm really don't understand a lot of the rules. Football is my sport!

I don't even know if Indiana has hockey....LOL. I've never seen a game either. Oh I think I watched for a minute on TV, but like Dobie didn't understand what I was watching. I think it looks a little like soccer...get the ball/puck to the other end and kill a few guys on the way....LOL.

I don't understand football either. I've watched one full game, when the Colts won the playoffs and it was really exciting, but they had to tell me what was happening during the whole game. Didn't retain much of the information I must say. I do understand basketball.

I really don't like just sitting and watching sports. I do like watching the girls high school volley team play though and have taken them on their sports trips. I think I'd rather be a participant than sit and watch any sport. I just can't get this old fat body to do what it needs to anymore....LOLOL

Gayle, that's cool! I was kind of worried when I was thinking about moving to Texas, because I think I would miss hockey terribly! Between just watching junior hockey, WHL, my boyfriend's rec hockey games, and of course NHL on tv, my winter is pretty much hockey all the time :D
Dobie - I don't understand football!!!! Ugh Kyle has tried explaining it to me so many times and I just can't even force myself to stay awake for a whole game. I always fall asleep! It's too complicated for me... too many rules!!! haha
Janet - I actually find hockey to be a lot like basketball with the rules. In hockey there are offsides - the team with possession has to take the puck across the centerline, just like in basketball. Instead of fouls, there are penalties. Sometimes there are penalty shots, but not often! You just get the upper hand for 2 minutes or 5 minutes while the other team has one player in the penalty box, because you have more players on the ice. But yeah, basically get the puck to the other end of the ice and shoot it in the net :D It might be similar to soccer too but I never really followed soccer or know the rules!

Lindsay, there's lots of hockey in Texas - of course the Dallas Stars! There's lots of lower level hockey teams around the state. You won't be too far from hockey, if you should decide to move to Texas.

There's a hockey team in Wichita. They're called the Thunder Dogs!! I can remember that because the one time that we went to watch them I had a boy with a really loud voice scream that in my ear everytime they came out to throw prizes into the crowd!!!!! I wouldn't mind going back again.
