We are on day 61 and we have puppies. I wasn't expecting them until Thursday. Emilee usually goes right on her due date.
I was sitting at the kitchen table eating my lunch and Emilee comes in and barks at me. I asked her what she wanted and she motioned that she wanted to go to my bedroom to her whelping area. I let her go back there and she immediately hopped in her box and started contractions. She showed no signs previously.
So here are the stats:
1.) Female - born 12:45 PM - passed away. Emilee was way to vigorous with the chord and I think it was her fault that the intestines ...well, you know. Oh...she was a chocolate.
2.) Male - born 1:20 PM - 3.5 oz
3.) Female - born 2:37 PM - 2.5 oz
4.) Female - born 2:01 PM - 1.9 oz. I worked with her for 40 minutes...she just wouldn't take that first breath and passed away.
5.) Female - born 3:37 PM - 3.9 oz
6.) Male - born 4:05 PM - 4.2 oz he's also a chocolate.
In Emilee's very first litter there was a chocolate female born. She lives in Arizona.

Congratulations on your new puppies!! I'm so sorry to hear that two of them didn't make it. It kinda' makes the birthing bittersweet doesn't it? Excited about the ones that are ok and sad for the two who didn't make it. I don't think that I've ever seen a chocolate yorkie. You're going to have to show pictures!!! I can't wait!!!

This thread is worthless without pictures!!! LOL!!! Well, I didn't really mean that - but you may remember that I am a huge sports fan so I frequent several sports boards where guys post and that is a common saying when they want someone to post pictures!
Do you think she went into labor early because she had so many puppies inside? I bet the little female that just wouldn't take a breath that her lungs weren't completely developed and that's why she couldn't breathe. I'm so sorry you lost two, but that is the way nature goes, I think.
I can't imagine how much fun it is to have a house full of puppies. Do you keep them separated from the other dogs and for how long? They are so cute when they start running around and playing!!!

I'm not really sure why she went 2 days early. I wish the two girls could have made it. The one was just so tiny that she fit in the palm of my hand and still had room. The other girl....I think Emilee pulled the cord right out and the intestines came with it. She only had two small contractions and I didn't even know the baby was out. She was that fast. I though she was just licking herself. I blame myself for not catching it sooner and cutting the cord myself. I did with the others. I wasn't taking any chances.
It is really fun having puppies in the house until they start getting bigger poops....lol. But they are soooo much fun.
I keep them in an x-pen most of the time. I take them out very often and play and teach them that when they are out they must go to pee pads just like in the x-pen. I let the bigger dogs and puppies smell each other through the pen and then when they are about 6 weeks old I let them out with the adults. The adults are very good and gentle with them.

They are adorable! Yes, I want to know about the chocolate too - what does that mean and what will he (I think it's a he) look like when grown???

Janet, congratulations of 4 beautiful puppies. So sad that all 6 didn't make it.
I've read about the chocolates on YT. Some of the ladies there get all upset if someone breeds them, or breeds for them since they are not standard. I think they are cute though, and unique like party yorkies or biewers. It's cool to see genetics at work and they are 100% yorkie.
We know you will keep us posted as they grow. So, So cute!!!

PUPPIES! Congratulations. Way to go Emilee. They are all on the smaller side. She summoned you to the whelping area?! I know how you feel about not being able to save the first one - I always beat myself up with what ifs.

The 'what if's' are just horrible. I'm still very sad over losing the two girls. Marilyn, I know that YT has a lot of opinionated people that are just bad humans. I can't believe the way they jump on people over there, no compassion for other peoples feelings. I did post the puppies there, but have only had a couple responses. Guess some have learned if they don't have anything nice to say...then don't say anything.
This little chocolate guy will be neutered before going to his new home....just like the female (Izzie) was that lives in Arizona. I don't want someone trying to breed the chocolates on purpose. I honestly don't mind the breeding part so much .... it's the trying to get more money because they are 'rare'.
They are beautiful though...wish the little chocolate girl would have lived...I might have been tempted to keep her. I was so tempted to keep Izzie from the very first litter, but she has a wonderful home and is loved so much. I don't regret my decision at all.
Good job Emily!!! We're all so proud of you, and CONGRATULATIONS Janet!!!
They are just adorable. Please give each one a kiss from me.
I'm so sorry about the two you lost. It is survival of the fittest, but it is so hard to lose them.
Enjoy your babies!!!

Thanks Debbie!!! How have you been? I miss you here! I hope all is well and that things are going great!
Woohoo Janet! The 4 look round and perfect.
I remember when our girls were bred saying we'd have pups at the same time again... well with yours going early, mine is late! Hickory still hasn't had her pups and my vet wants to wait until Tuesday to intervene. So if she's not had them by Tuesday we're going in for an U/S and see what's up.
I'm so sorry you lost 2. That's always sad.

Thanks Tink. I think about the two we lost quite a bit. Sure wish it could have been different.
I hope nothing is wrong with Hickory, that the babies just need a little more basteing time. Can't wait to hear about many and what they look like.
