Broken computer

My trusty old laptop has breathed its last. It was acting flaky and the power kept going on and off. I loaded everything onto an external hard drive (I hope!), and
called a computer person. He came over and what he tried to do did not work.

I'm using an old refurbished laptop I bought a while ago, but it's not so reliable, so I am on the phone on terminal hold with Toshiba. I'm ordering a new laptop,
and they have the best deal believe it or not.

I will try to come on tomorrow. Maybe this will work better then. It is so slow!
I haven't even set up my email yet.

Can I ask what you are looking for in a laptop? The guy at Best Buy told me that HP (believe it or not) and Toshiba are the better laptops.

Judy, I'm sure you know what you are doing and have done your research, just wanted to let you know that last Christmas, I got Melissa an Acer from TigerDirect.com & she is very happy with it. It's not a pretty laptop, very basic, but for the price it's a really good machine. I'm always hesitant to make too much of a recommendation on electronics these days though. One is good, another made on the same assembly line may be bad. You just never know.

They also carry HP and others and are offering some pretty impressive deals right now. I paid like $468 for the Acer last year. This year it's $499. I bought her portable external hard drive to back it up for $70. I figured for this price, it's a throwaway if anything goes wrong.

Karen (oldest daughter) has a Toshiba that is about a year and 1/2 old, that she paid much more for, and it is prone to crashing on her at the most inopportune times. It has a bad thermister that keeps shunting out, and is, of course, out of warranty.

Do you have wireless internet? I'm right there with you wanting a laptop.
We have wireless. Then I could go anywhere in the house to use it. Like
the living room on my comfy couch so I can still watch the tube. And be on here catching up with everyone. Then you all would get so tired of me......:eek:

Yes Linda, we are wireless. I would love to have a laptop, but I just want so many other things. I want to get this carpet out of here so bad and I've threatened to just rip it out and leave the board, plywood, partical board whatever it is showing.

My girlfriends little dog that I'm watching right now still goes on the carpet once in awhile and it is driving me insane! She is only 2 lbs 14 ozs, and the spot is about the size of a quarter, but I can't stand it. So, she spends a lot more time in her 'area' than she did.

Poor Janet! I know that feeling. It starts to get pretty smelly after a while too.

I got a Toshiba Satellite. I like Toshiba. I have seen the Acers on Tiger Direct. They do look good. I love Tiger Direct. They have a very good reputation.

I am very spoiled with the laptop. I do sit on the couch while I'm on it.

I just don't know what kind of laptop I would want to get. The geeks at Best Buy said that Toshiba and HP were the better laptops and the the Acers were made overseas and that the weaker models were sent here. Don't know if that is true, but it sure makes it hard to choose the best one. Glad I can't afford one yet...LOL
