I think I have posted about this somewhere else - I can't remember - Oh, I do remember that I am "losing it" just like the rest of you. Well anyway......

Hubby's 4 sisters (and him) all try to go somewhere together every year and the last couple of years they have gone on a caribbean cruise. I have not gone because

1) I don't really care for cruise ships,
2) I've been to the caribbean already
3) I really don't care for swimming or sandy beaches (sand in every crack, yuk! :D), and
4) I HATE TO BE HOT!!!

After our summer vacation, I realized that I really needed to go with Gary on the cruise due to his health difficulties. So, I agreed to go. What brings this to the forefront today is the discussion about the cruise, the excursion, etc. this weekend with his sister and her husband who were visiting.

So, here's my rant. My favorite month in Austin is November. You can be assured of temps that are never over the mid/low 70's and it is not yet cold either. Well, the cruise is in November and so I'll get to spend one week of my favorite month in the HOT CARIBBEAN!!! YUK!!!

OK, rant over. I should be grateful for getting to go on a nice trip with family. I should not complain. I should not complain. I should not complain. I should not complain. :D

I can understand Gayle. I'm so tired of being hot. Granted...some of it may be due to hormones, but seems like I can't take a few steps without perspiring. This cool weather we're having right now is wonderful. I woke up to temps of 51 degrees....can't you believe it? I love this cool weather....so I know what it's like to long for a favorite time.

One week won't be so bad. Are ships air conditioned? Maybe you can take some things to do inside while Gary and his sisters have fun outside. I've never been on a cruise so I don't have very good advice. :)

Thanks Janet - I know I shouldn't complain, I should be grateful for the nice trip. The ships are airconditioned and there are lots of places to stay inside and stay cool. Gary and his sisters will probably spend lots of time out by or in the pool, etc. That's just not my thing at all. They will probably think I'm being snotty - but I just don't like to sit in the sun and be hot. I'm not putting on a swimsuit - so getting in the pool is out.

Oh well, it will be OK, and as you say, it is only a week! I'll take plenty of reading material to keep me occupied.

It's not fun to do something that you really don't enjoy but I can understand that you need to be there to care for Gary. Personally, I don't mind the hot as long as I can either swim or get into the air conditioning. I don't like to spend long periods of time in it, I guess is what I'm trying to say. Just take a lot of change and hit the casino!!! That should keep you cool!!!

Gayle, after our cruise, I sooo understand. We enjoyed it, but not my favorite mode of travel. The cassinos are to smoky for us. For the money you spend on a cruise there are so many nice things to do, but do understand your need to do this with and for Gary. Our time is so valuable, but hopefully it will be better than you are thinking and you will get to spend some quality time together!!! Thoughts and prayers are with you!!!

I feel exactly the same way! Maybe the casino will be non smoking! Yeah right! Dream On! LOL!

It will be fine - I bet it will be better than I am anticipating. We are very lucky and got a GREAT rate since there are 9 of us going.

Gayle I do love you.. BUT November is the best time to go on a cruise.. No hurricane weather and its beautiful. I am a big fan of cruises, I just love , love them. Matter of fact my friends and family want to do one next year and extent to everyone.. SO GIRLS YOUR INVITED! they say the more the merrier..

Gayle I know that your not a fan of cruises, but you don't have to go to the beach just enjoy the ship so much to do and the food AHHHHHH abundance. Plenty to do or not to do just soak up the sun by the pool. Shall I go on.. lol

Sooooooooooo GOOOOOOO Enjoy make Gary happy, you will not regret it.. :)

PS I love the casinos, I never had a problem with smoking sec. I stay away and I hate the SMELL OF SMOKE.. lol not a good reason, you can avoid that section.. lol

Thanks Gina, I know many people love cruises - it's just not "my style". I feel uncomfortable on the ship, not because it is a ship, but because of the "pretentiousness" or something??? that I see everywhere.

Mostly, I don't like to be HOT - and November is our "wonderfully cool" month. The temperature is perfect in Austin, and now I have to go to the Caribbean and be HOT again. I don't wear swimsuits so to sitting by the pool would be HOT. Are you getting a theme now? LOL!

I don't care to drink - too many calories. And the food - oh yes, I love the food, but I struggle so mightily with my weight, that I feel guilty for every wonderful thing I put in my mouth. Then, when I get home, I have to go back to a STRICT eating regimen and it will be so hard. I'm like an addict, when I get the taste of good food, it is so hard to cut back to low fat, plain vegetables, etc etc. I will continue to eat out of control for a while when I get back, and I will gain even more weight. So, combined with the cruise, and the ensuing holidays, the weight gain issue for me is very bleak.

I know I will have fun, and I will so enjoy watching Gary have a great time with his sisters. But I will pay for it in more ways that one! Oh well, it's not the first costly trip, and won't be the last. LOL!!! Maybe there will be a non-smoking section of the casino. That would be fun!
