Is it fact or fiction that antibiotics interfere with oral contraceptives? I've always heard that it is a rumor that has never been statistically confirmed. What do you think?

I'm not sure if it's all antibiotics or just some... I know a lot of times when I get a prescription filled for antibiotics, the pharmacist will tell me if it will make my birth control pills less effective. I take their advice!

Nope, it's a fact. You always have to use back-up protection when taking antibiotics. ;)

I'm sure you figured this out already (but just in case), but if you take a pill (any pill) and vomit shortly after, the pill you took will not be effective, as it didn't absorb into your body yet.

It's VERY true! Be careful if you are taking both!

My doctor always is sure to prescribe antibiotics that will not interfere with my pill. And if I am unsure about a medication, vitamin, or whatever... I always ask the pharmacist.

Another thing I always do is eat yogurt and drink cranberry juice when on antibiotics to help prevent yeast infection. My mom taught me some good habits!

Well, when I posted this, I was on antibiotics (Zithromax, aka Z-Pack), but I did not get prego. YAY! I'm married, but neither of us want children right now.

I think the thing is is that it has never been "scientifically proven" to interfere with birth control pills. Some antibiotics have been "proven" to interfere, and then pharmacist and/or your doctor will warn of of those that have been "proven" to interfere.
