View Full Version : Anyone Losing Weight?
Janet

Has anyone besides Judy started a new diet or thinking of starting one? Every year most woman..lol and myself included want to start losing weight because of the spring/summer weather.
This year....I've decided not to make any weightloss decision like that....my only decision is to add more fruits and vegetable to my diet. Won't be too hard with the veggies, but fruit....not a big fruit eater, I am going to try though.
Are any of you trying to lose weight or eat better?

I am trying to eat better but it doesn't work that well. I eat a ton of fruits and veggies... I'd just eat that if I could :) I'm not a big fan of meats and I never have been, but I do try to have meat in at least one meal per day. The big thing for me is I've made a big effort to take vitamins every day. I take a multivitamin plus Vitamin D and Vitamin B, because my blood tests show I'm low and hopefully eating right will help my kidneys more!
Every once in awhile I get on the treadmill, but I like it better when I'm home by myself, which isn't that often. The treadmill is on our top floor and Scott complains that it sounds like an elephant running through the house :( I also kind of get in a zone when I'm running and listening to music, and I hate to be bothered because it takes my concentration off running and more onto how silly I might look
Scott suggested we start a fitness boot camp so we're both in shape before summer, but I don't think I could handle it. Whenever I get the urge to run, I do that for about 25 minutes, and then do situps in different positions to work different abs, and last time I lifted some weights too to strengthen my shoulders and back, but I never keep up with it because I have too much other stuff to do.
I want to lose around 10-15 lbs. I don't know if that's feasible. My body has changed so much in the last year or so, and I know I might not be able to get back to the weight I was 5 years ago. I didn't have hips then and I do now!
Good for you for having realistic weight goals Linds! Hips are pretty anyway.

Good going Lindsey, sounds like you have it mostly under control. Everytime I start a diet...I screw it up and then never go back to it. So...I thought maybe it would help to fill up more with fruits and veggies and maybe...some weight will come off. I know I need to lose terribly, but it's so hard and I can't always keep up with the diet.

Oh MAN! I need to lose some weight in the worst way! I have just let myself go over the winter. First we moved, so we ate out for weeks, before and after the move. Then the kids were here and I just have eaten junk I NEVER used to eat. I gain weight so easily - I have to watch every bite I take.
But I have had NO motivation, none AT ALL. I know myself and I know I cannot start a diet when I have no motivation. I hate the way I look, the way my clothes fit, etc etc, but I have no motivation to diet. Does that make any sense? NO!
I need HELP!

Funny you should ask!!!
Just today a co-worker and I agreed to go on a "let's see who can lose 20 lbs faster" diet. I have the newest Weight Watchers point system books. Last time I used that system the weight came off fast. Basically it teaches portian control.
Only diet that works.
But hard to stick to... :(
So... tonight at the store, bone-in ham's were on sale for 87 cents a pound. Had one in my cart... then put it back and replaced with boneless frozen chicken breasts!! My George will be cooking for me.. lol... as in George Foreman Grill.
For if I cook the ham, have to have mashed tators and gravy... something I really can't afford to enjoy right now!! Then ham and scalloped tators with letovers.. not a good idea... for I have no will power over that.. will eat till I burst...
Oh how I wish I could go back to the days when I could eat anything.

I'm so disappointed with myself........I had lost 5 pounds last year but gained it all back after the holidays were over. Bummer!!!!
I've been trying to watch a little better what I eat. When I order a hamburger I try to usually order a salad with it instead of fries. Little things make a difference.
My biggest problem right now is no energy!!! I just can't seem to get much done......let alone feel like exercising.
I gained 5lbs this school semester. My friend that takes me out to eat told me "Good my diet is working". So silly.
Gayle I have no motivation either. Maybe if I watch tv and see those perfect bodies I just might.
Lindsey, I wish I had hips.
I didn't know WW had a fast weight loss diet! This seems to be the trend right now. My diet, Medifast, is known for that, I saw another advertised on TV last night, and now WW.
The thing is, such a quick weight loss is not healthy. The tendency to gain back is huge!
I am doing it to become motivated though. Otherwise, it is just too hard! Maybe that's why they are so popular right now. Lots of baby boomers who are in their 60's, and are finding it difficult to get those pounds off.
Truthfully, if my weight was not mostly in my stomach, I wouldn't really care. I would just buy new clothes and get on with life!
I had gained a few pds myself over the winter. I am also a big fan of Dr. Oz so I try to eat healthy and I do cheat on the weekends though. I have started a zumba class and I love it! If you ladies are looking for a good workout whether you go to a class or buy the tape it is a great workout and you will have fun..
Janet

I've heard the Zumba classes are wonderful, they have them at our YMCA. I think I'd rather have the tapes/CD's though. I want to go to the classes, but I'm just way to big for me to be comfortable in front of others.
Buy them Janet! If you love latin salsa and dancing you will enjoy this!

Gina....You mentioned Dr. Oz in your earlier post.....does he have a diet plan or something out? I watch him once in awhile...Mother doesn't like him much so she changes the channel...lol.
He is a wonderful doctor! Are you on his diet Gina? He is so knowledgeable about good health and diet!
My diet is not too bad! I got over the starvation phase. Now, I am just finding it a little annoying to have to eat 6 small meals/day. I prefer stuffing myself and then eating hours later when that wears off. Oh wait...that's why I'm on this diet, isn't it?
Aside from a protein and greens for dinner, these are the foods. Beside the bars, all of them are either mixed with water, whipped with water, or microwaved with water. So, what I'm thinking is, why not just pour them all into a big bowl, add some water, mix, microwave, and split it into 5 portions? That's a day's worth, it's easy, and probably tastes as good as each thing on it's own.
Now I'm trying to figure out an easy way to prepare dinners in advance. I was going to grill 3 big chicken breasts last night, but the perfect storm hit us, so that was a no go.

No Janet he justs promotes healthy foods on his shows daily, eating veggies. etc. Why doesn't your mom like him? To be honest I went to his show this past Oct. I was a little disappointed myself he is not audience friendly as he seems on tv..

Judy no special diet, as I mentioned I just eat healthy and cut out cookies and cake. If I want to sample any sweets I have a little on the weekend. To be honest you can't view it as a diet for I think that word alone makes me want to eat more lol I look at it as a change of eating habits.. I believe in moderation so if I want something that is a no no I don't deprive myself but have a small portion.
I have become a big salad lover.. I put cranrasins, feta cheese, with salad, cherry tomatoes it is so yummy and filling... I love all types of salads..

Judy, how are you doing on your diet? I don't know if I could drink all that stuff. Goodness knows, I need to lose 20 pounds though.
Someone told me today that the NEW Weight Watchers was really good and easy to follow. When I get sick to death of this 20 extra pounds, I'll probably do the new WW. I've done the old WW for years (obviously not enough though).
Janet
04-26-2011, 05:37 AM
I thought the old WW worked really well for me but got tired of figuring points and I still felt hungry. You're not suppose to feel hungry on WW.

So I'm not the only one that has put on weight lol! I need to lose 15 to 20 pounds! Mine is all in my stomach too. I hate the muffin top I have got now! I also have no motivation and definitely no energy. I have gotten so lazy since I stopped working 3 years ago. Judy I don't know if I could drink all that stuff either. I would starve to death:rolleyes: I'm hopeless!:o
I just weighed in at 143. I began 2 weeks ago at 150.5; lost 4.5 last week, and 3 pounds this week. Pretty good! I am very happy with this weight loss.
I am about to eat microwaved powdered eggs. Not tasty! I'm not at all a fussy eater, and there is really no cooking or shopping, so this diet works well for me.
I ordered a lot of bars and puddings for next month.
I found that if I put less water in a lot of the foods, there is a more solid consistency. I can't have drinks all day. You need to feel like you're having food!
I'm still hungry, but it's getting much better. I can add a protein to mid morning, and have less at dinner. I think that would do it.
Whatever it takes to get this muffin top off!
Lindsey

Wow that's great for 2 weeks!!
I wish I could get a little more motivated. I was going through my summer clothes on the weekend and had to put most of them in the garage sale box. There were capris, shorts, and skirts, that I couldn't even get past my hips with the zippers undone! :( Oh well, I guess it's an excuse to buy new clothes.
I'm fluctuating between 142 and 144. I would like to be 130-135ish. I can't believe that just 5 years ago I only weighed 115! :( I'm 5'8 and lots of people commented that I looked just TOO skinny back then, and I agree, but it's crazy to think just how much more I've gained! I know most of my problem is sitting at a desk or in a car for 10 hours a day now. I used to be much more active.
DianaB
04-29-2011, 04:27 PM
I'll tell you, Lindsey, get it under control NOW while you have the energy to do it!!! Not that you're heavy.......but when I was younger it just kept creeping on a little at a time.......and, voila, here I am!!! I wish that I would have worked harder on it when I was young.
Glen had a cousin at their Easter picnic that had lost 60 pounds. I asked her how she was doing it and she is only eating 800 calories a day!!!! But....she said that she's losing 3-4 pounds a week!! I don't think I could do that ......I've had a hard time on 1200 calories a day!!! That's not much food!!!!! She has will power....that's for sure!!!!
Janet
04-29-2011, 04:35 PM
Her body is going to get use to 800 calories and then when she eats more, she'll gain weight.
I don't think I'll ever lose the weight that I need to.
That sounds like my diet, Medifast. It was actually meant for obese people who needed treatment but were too heavy for it. It is a very quick weight loss. The transition and maintenance are the really hard parts, I think. I'll have to add in one thing at a time, like fruits, etc., etc. to see what I can eat to maintain the weight loss.
I really don't believe in this kind of crash diet. They say it will become a way of life, but that just make sense to me! It's also not really healthy to lose more than 1 to 2 pounds/week. 800 cal./day is insanity!
What I'm hoping for is that getting to a goal weight, I'll be motivated to keep it somewhere in that vicinity. I can use their techniques, plus my WW knowledge, and see what happens.
I went to my doctor yesterday for my blood pressure, etc., and he feels it's fine. I told him I'm really tired. He said my body is being stressed by the rapid weight loss, but not to worry about it. I'll be fine, and the weight loss is really a good stressor.
Gotta go drink my breakfast shake!
WAHOO!!! I weighed in at 139.5!!!
I began, three weeks ago, at 150.5, so my total loss is 11 pounds!
I'm happy, and hopefully, will be ale to begin the transition diet soon. I think I need to lose about 7 more pounds. I hope I don't start losing only 1 pound/week!
I really want to start the transition and then maintenance, so I can figure out what I can eat and be healthy (and thin.
Lindsey

Wow Judy, that's a lot of weight lost!!
I haven't weighed myself lately, because I'm scared it will show I'm not losing any weight lol! I have just not been as hungry lately, so I haven't been snacking so much during the day, and eating small lunches. I've been feeling thin, so I don't want to find out that nothing has changed lol.

Most of the bus drivers at our school have started a Biggest Loser program for the last 6 weeks of school. We weighed in last Tuesday. It cost $10 to join. We'll weigh every Tuesday and if anyone gains, they have to pay $1.00 per pound gained. At three weeks a prize will be given to the one losing the largest percentage and then at 6 weeks, the grand prize. Not sure how I'll do, but we'll see. It's fun anyway and I love having fun!
Lindsey

That does sound fun, and it's some extra incentive to keep trying!
Janet
05-08-2011, 08:01 AM
Hopefully I won't have to pay...lol. I love to eat, but I'm also a stress eater and we all know the stress I've been under. If I don't lose any....I hope I don't gain any.

Judy, that's great!!! I'm so proud of you!!! I have got to lose weight but you really have to be committed and I'm not sure that I could right now. I have some friends that have lost a lot of weight and I'm looking into what they did.
Janet, that sounds like fun!! You've always done well on WW and maybe this will be the incentive to get you going!!! Forget about your stress and stick to it!! You have such amazing willpower that I know you can do this!!!!
I'm cheering you on!!! :cheer:

05-13-2011, 05:14 PM
I'm really not even trying Diana. Too much other stuff going on...but it's fun to be with the other 'dieters'...lol.
I got stuck at 139.5 until yesterday. Now I'm down to 137, which is great. I've been cheating a bit though. Today I had an extra shake (we are allowed if we are really having a hungry day), and extra peanut butter for the past 4 days. Im allowed 1 tbsp of peanut butter as an optional snack. I had 2 tbsp. today. So, an extra shake and an extra tbsp of pb. That's not bad at all, but I don't want to get into a pattern and begin to gain again.
My goal weight is 132, but now that I've lost 13.5 pounds, I can live with the weight I am now very happily. I have a few bulges, and I will never have a flat stomach again, but I feel good, my clothes fit, and I am happy with how I look.
132 might be too thin anyway. I think that at a certain age, too thin looks bad.
I have sharp features and look gaunt when I'm too thin.
My healthy BMI weight range is between 114 to 131 pounds. I don't want to be so thin.
So, as far as I'm concerned, I'm very happy with my weight right now, and feel that this diet has been a success. Now, to keep it off....
I'm not really on a diet but I love to eat healthy at times.
A few days ago I went to buy a smoothy and saw a refrigerator with meals inside. I tried a wrap and it was soooo good. I grab a brochure to take and see what else they got.
Here's there web link:
perfectfitmeals.com
I only tried there wrap but I am going to try there others meals.

Good job, Judy!! It's always nice to get off of a plateau!!!
I'm about ready to start a diet. I have some friends that have been on Atkins and have done really well.....also, the diet is pretty much a diabetic diet. I'm still reading the book so it's going to be a while before I start.
Janet
05-23-2011, 03:36 PM
Be careful Diana....I've always heard the the Atkins diet isn't a healthy one to go on. Maybe Gayle will know more. I really think the only tried and true way to lose weight is to eat healthy, watch your portions and exercise. The weight will stay off longer. I'm just not good at eating healthy or exercising. I always have or find an excuse.
Good luck to you Diana.
Atkins is good for diabetics. Can you eat a lot of protein? I find that filling. Fiber is also filling. Have you got all the exchanges down? It is probably easier for you to cut carbs since you already have to. Wouldn't it be nice if it was healthy to be a bit overweight?
I am so sick of this diet! I ran out of bars, which are delicious, chewy, and satisfy me. Now I have to wait until my next delivery and all I have are liquidy foods. I called somebody who is on this diet, to see if she wants to trade me some of my food packages for some bars. I have to wait till she calls back.
DianaB
05-25-2011, 03:20 PM
That's a good idea to trade with someone else. Can you change your order so you get more bars next time?
Janet, the Adkins diet does allow carbs but you really watch what they are. I think that I'm going to try it. I do need to go to the doctor soon so I'll ask her about it......but she is promoting a diet that goes through her office.......and COSTS alot so I'm not sure what she'll tell me. I do like my doctor though.

Hi Diana, yes the Adkins diet is good for people with diabetes. The old Adkins diet used to be very radical and didn't allow hardly any carbs and it was hard on the kidneys. The new adkins is more reasonable and is pretty much how a person with diabetes should eat. I say go for it!
I don't see why a doctor is promoting an expensive diet! Well, you are smart enough to not go for it. Atkins is good, and you don't have to buy their food.
I weight 134.5 today!!! I broke that plateau, and only want to lose 2.5 pounds to reach my goal weight. Then, I will gain some back on the transition diet I'm guessing.

Is it good for people that do not have diabetes too?
gja1000
05-26-2011, 05:08 PM
Yes, the new Adkins is fine for everyone! Just don't go completely carbless, and eat only protein. That is too hard on your kidneys.
This is my diet. You go into ketosis, which they don't tell us, and lose weight fast.
Once the body uses up the stored carbs for energy, it starts to burn fat for energy.
Then, you lose fat! Easy peasy, but controversial. I do not think it is healthy for too long.
Once I lose the weight I want, I go into the transition diet, which brings carbs, like fruit in slowly. Then, I slowly balance out my nutrients to a certain caloric level, and stay on that. I would never recommend this diet to anyone. It is really controversial.
Atkins has gotten a good reputation lately. I would try it for a sensible weight control eating style.
DianaB
05-30-2011, 09:28 AM
The new Adkins diet allows for some carbs eventually. You start out with very few for a 2 to 4 weeks and then you start adding them in slowly to find out what point you start to gain....then you back them back off. The book I have is the New Adkins diet.....I still haven't gotten it all read!!! I'm going to try and have Glen do it with me so I won't be alone.
I need to check with the doctor first because of my kidneys and being diabetic. My numbers kinda' worried me with my last blood test. I'm making an appointment for this week.
Janet

I wish you the best on this diet. I've decided that I just can't do another one. It's just too hard and then I get depressed because I failed. I'm think I can watch my portions better than I have been so maybe I'll give it a try.
I am at a standstill with losing weight. I have gained about 7lbs. in the past two years and can't seem to lose it at all. I was keeping it off when I had all that dental implant surgery, but don't want to do that again.. I am really not eating fattening foods, I am eating healthy. I don't eat sweets regulary anymore, occassionaly have I a bowl of ice cream and its usually Edys slow churned or a little treat, but nothing is coming off.
I guess my body cant lose anymore weight. I do go to Zumba classes and am going to join a gym again.. I am between pants sizes and don't want to invest in a new wardrobe. Its very frustrating..

I have GOT to try to lose some weight. I gained 10 lbs this winter while we were in moving mode and I have had NO desire to get it off. I need to lose 20 lbs. I hate the way I look, but with no motivation, I just couldn't do anything.
I am sorta motivated now, and so Gary and I are going to try to start dieting tomorrow. I hope it goes well.
Janet

Good luck to all you dieters :)
Dieting is so hard! Of course, you are not motivated! Who wants to give up good food, count calories, go low fat, and deny yourself carbs? Such craziness!
I am like a drug addict when I go to the supermarket! I crave every carb I pass - the breads, the cakes, the cookies, junk food, even the fruit. I am afraid one day I just may break in at night and they will find me happily snoozing in the cookie aisle the next morning!
I am down to 134 now. I was actually 132.5 yesterday morning! I had steak last night, and that stays in your stomach for about 48 hours, so it will show up on the scale. My goal weight is 132 but I could stop right now. My coach told me that people usually go about 5 pounds under their goal weight. Then, when we add carbs, etc. slowly, any weight gain won't get us over the goal weight.
I'll know when I am done, so I'm not concerned.
Diana, the new Adkins sounds like my Medifast diet. Definitely check with your doctor first. This diet is stressful for your body, and you need to be sure your body can deal with it.

Well, Gary and I started our diets today. I count WW points, but I also have an App for my iPhone (probably one for the iPad too), called Lose It! It's free. It calculated that I should have 1200 cals per day to lose 1.5 lbs a week - which is approximately the same as my number of WW points (I get 25 WW points and each point is approximately 50 cals).
You input your food and exercise for each meal each day and the app keeps track of everything. It's pretty nifty. It also saves the food you eat in a bank since most people eat basically the same thing, so eventually, you don't have to look up the food you ate, you just go to the bank and can easily find what you ate and enter it. It's kinda fun and it's a novelty right now, so that may help - ANYTHING may help and goodness knows, I need help right now.
That app sounds very useful. I think I might add it.
Good luck with WW. I think that is the best of all diets.

Well this is the start of day 4 and I'm doing well. I am hungry in the afternoon about 4:00 and I didn't take anything to snack on with me to school, so I just ignored it and ate a little watermelon when I got home which seemed to curb the hunger. I'm also hungry in the late evening, but not ravenously hungry like the late afternoon hunger. I need to find some snacks that I can eat that won't burn up all my calories. I CANNOT snack on fruit or raw vegetables because they make my stomach growl and it feels like hunger pains. I need to find a lower calorie granola bar that tastes decent. My favorite bar has 150 calories and I don't want to waste that many calories on a snack. Any ideas for me?
Fiber one bars are 90 calories and have a lot of fiber. Doesn't WW have snacks available? I remember buying delicious bars at WW when I was trying it again.
How about sugar free jello? It's sweet and fun to eat. I don't know how many points they are, but I am allowed 4 to 5 olives, which also have good fat.

I am interested in that app you mentioned Gayle. As soon as my IPad is charged I'm going to check it out. Maybe if I just watch calories a little more closely that would help me instead of trying a 'diet'. I'm hoping to be a bit more active once school is out and I won't have to be on a schedule of any kind.

I was going to recommend Mrs. Mays bars but I checked out there calories and it's 170. But boy are they delicious.

I'm doing well on my second week of dieting with Lose It! I lost 2 lbs last week and I weigh tomorrow to see what I've lost this week. Might not be as much since dieting while in Houston with the kids was a struggle. I still get pretty hungry at times, I'm snacking on watermelon and Special K 90 calorie bars (they're not too good though).

06-19-2011, 08:18 PM
I do too, but they usually have more calories than I want to spend on a snack. Sigh. My favorite are the Sweet and Salty bars, but they are 160 each. Sometimes I break down and eat one though
The Medifast bars are delicious, although my grandchildren don't think so! Maybe I am just used to them, but I really enjoy them. They are 110 Cal., 25 Cal from fat and 4 g fiber. I'm not sure how many points that would be. They also have 11 g Protein.
They are expensive, but cheaper on eBay. Medifast gets $16.25/box of 7 bars. I don't pay a lot of S&H because I am a member, but they charge a lot to ship if you are not a member. Ebay is better for S&H too.
I spend about $300/month for all of my food, and then have one "lean ande green" meal every day. My total food costs are low.
I weighed in at 130.5 this morning!!! I lost 20 pounds! YAY FOR ME!!!

I'm still doing well on the diet - day 18 and I have not gone over my calorie alotment yet. It is hard, I get very hungry sometimes, but I try to eat a 90 calorie bar to curb the hunger. I can also eat watermelon and that doesn't make me feel more hungry. I just wish I could find more things for snacks that were good tasting and low calorie!!!

I really need to get busy like the rest of you and just stick to It. I was lying in bed this morning and could already feel pain before I even got out of bed. Elbow joints hurt and my knees...they ache so bad. I know it would help or even stop most of the pain if I'd just get some of this weight off. I weighed myself and I'm up to 258 lbs. Not good...not good at all. I start off well with losing and then the first bit of stress or anything really just sets me off and I eat. I try to tell myself it's a matter of life and death, but even that doesn't phase me. I wonder if hypnotism would work.....or at least help.

Janet, do you take glucosamine? It's over the counter, you can get it at Walmart. It lubricates the joints. EVERYONE should be taking it starting in the 40's. It helps prevent joint deterioration and pain. It really works. You only need plain glucosamine, 2000 my per day. You do not need glucosamine with chondroitin or with MSM, just plain.

I thought I was going to lose weight in Europe, but I didn't. We walked almost all day every day, and my legs were aching, but I am still the same weight as before I left! Scott actually gained 5 lbs! But I think it was probably muscle, he's pretty scrawny
Janet, my blood pressure is down to normal since I took off the weight. It really does help with your health.
I'm down to 132, and I would like to go down a little further still. I still have a puffy stomach though, and always will.
Gayle, I don't know how the new WW system works, but there were snacks when I was on it. Pirate's Booty, the small bag, was 1 point. Cantalop and honey dew were low in points. Grapes too. They also sell a lot of these 100 cal snack bags, like nabisco crackers. There is a really low cal snack in my supermarket. I forget the name, but I will look at it next time I go shopping. Jello and fat free Cool Whip are also low in points. There are also breads that are 1 point/slice. If you are craving carbs, that should do it. I used to try to figure out what I was craving, like crunchy salty, and then look for an alternative, like Pirate's Booty. Cantelope with low fat chocolate syrup satisfied my craving for sweets.

I'm not doing WW, just counting calories - so I can eat most anything. It's just a matter of spending an hour or so in the grocery store looking over things that I like or might like that are low in calories. My problem with the 100 calorie packs is that there is so little in there, it's not worth spending 100 calories. I got 2 kinds of 90 calorie bars today and I really like one of them - the other is just OK. I do like watermelon so I've been eating that. When I crave salty, I eat the 100 calorie bags of low fat popcorn.

I started the Adkins diet yesterday. It went pretty well so I'm excited to see how it goes. I went to the grocery store today........and WOW......I spent a lot on groceries!!! It will be worth it though if I can lose this weight!!!

Thanks Gayle!!! I'm heading to Wal Mart tomorrow to pick up a prescription so I'll check out the glucosamine. Still...I need to get the weight off. I did load up the IPad2 with foods that I eat on a regular basis so I won't have to add them later. You all have me so motivated at this moment...I hope I can keep it up. With using Lose It....what do you do when you go out to eat? Do you ask for their food information? I think most restaurants are suppose to have it if requested, but I'm not sure.
Diana...being on Atkins or South Beach is expensive at first I thought, but gets better as you go along. Good luck to you....I hope you can get yourself healthier, I don't want anything happening to you.

There are some restaurant foods on Lose It, but not many. When I eat out, I try to choose something like grilled chicken or something that I know the calorie count - grilled chicken is about 50 calories per oz and 4 ounces is about the size of the palm of your hand. If I have a grilled chicken sandwich, I know a small bun will be 120 and a large one 150. It will have some mayo - so I usually scrape some off and count 40 calories. Usually I just sorta wing it when we go out.

I've been using the Lose It app since Friday and so far I've lost 2 lbs. It's kind of nice to be able to see what I'm eating and have it on my IPad. I hope I can keep it up. LOLOLOL....I should be at my goal weight Dec. 3, 2012. Now I just need to get off my butt and do some walking...I love to walk.
I see everyone is watching their weigh and you can add me in. I don't really count calories just started eating healthy thanks to Dr. Oz lol . I normally run a BP of 110/70 but the past year I have been a little higher so my dr. checks me every three mts. I go back this Thurs. to see. I have had lots of stress lately , not good I keep everything bottled inside but I have been working through my issues. So hopefully my BP is back to normal this week..
Along with eating healther I have cut out most sweets I no longer crave for cake and cookies as I use to. I indulge every once in awhile. I am addicted to honey roasted peanuts don't know if they are fattening or not, but I think nuts are healthy. Anyone know about how fattening peanuts are? I eat plenty of grilled chicken and salads, I am feeling like a rabbit. lol I just love the orange sherbet ice cream bars they dont seem so high in fat either.. That is my treat. I also eat lots of yogurts to.
As far as exercising as I mention I take Zumba classes twice a week and that works for me....
gja1000
06-26-2011, 03:45 PM
Gina, honey roasted peanuts are pretty high in calories and fat. There are approx 150 calories and 14 grams of fat in one ounce. That's probably about 3o nuts, depending on the size of the nuts.

Oh thank you so much Gayle for that info. I have been eating them by the handfuls. I should have realized anything that yummy is bad for you. lol I will no longer be eating them daily :(

I know it's okay once in awhile Gina....LOLOL....but I just started Friday or Saturday. I'll do better tomorrow. Also...I found a bigger purse that I just fell in love with. That is GREAT! I carry a backpack purse and my iPad will fit into it also. I love having it with me when I'm out and about. I have Lose It on my iPhone so when I'm at a restaurant, I can look up things also. It really helps.
What kind of purse, Janet? Did you get a Vera Bradley?
If you watch calories, and spread it out over a week, you can make up for those extra pizza calories more or less over 7 days, Janet.
Gina, I was eating honey roasted cashews by the handful, until I read the Caloric content! Sad!!!
My summer friends are up for the summer! I didn't realize it was so late im June! I am so glad they are here. Now, I have to work in seeing Jessie and enjoying being with my friends. She is very understanding, and knows that I love the pool and wait for summer all year, but she isn't feeling well. I didn't go to her yesterday because all of them had a sore throat kind of thing.
She has not been feeling well from her MS for about 4 months now. She is tired, has pain, has been dropping things, and her cognition (which I don't mention to her) has been off. I am praying that it passes quickly.
Send her your prayers please.
DianaB

Judy, I'm sorry that Jessie's MS is flaring up again. I'll be praying for her. That has to be so difficult to watch as her mother.
I've been doing really good with my Atkins but still I'm not seeing any progress!! Hopefully it's just going to take awhile to get going!! Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!
My blood sugar is still high but I'm having a few low ones too. You'd think that with very few carbs that my blood sugar would be very low!! Oh well.....the doctor will be checking it all out next week.
Thanks Diana! It is very hard to watch because we don't know if this is just a flare up, or if it won't go away this time. MS seems to have its' own mind! She has bounced back from other flare ups, but there is no guarantee. If I think about it, I get so scared. I cannot imagine how she feels!
I think you need to take a week or so to see some weight change on the Adkins. It sounds good that your sugar has gone down at times!

I'm still doing well on my diet. I had 3.5 oz. of steak tonight, but I budgeted for it so I didn't go over. I had grilled okra and steamed squash with it, so that helped me to not go over my calorie allotment. Gary bought these steaks one day he went shopping. He was so proud of himself, they looked like REALLY good steaks (and they were). I didn't have the heart to tell him I really shouldn't eat it - so I was just very very careful today before dinner.
I still get hungry sometimes, but either I fight it or eat some sort of snack. I'm feeling A LOT better, so I think I can keep it up. The really hard part will be next week in Oklahoma. Gary's sisters try to outdo each other in cooking, particularly snacks and desserts. Plus we will go out to eat A LOT. I hope I can keep it together for 7 days!!!!! :o

I didn't use all my calories today....after I went to the Dr., got my meds...I slept all afternoon and evening. I thought I'd check here before I conk out for the night. He put me on Flexeril and Prednisone. Hopefully it will work...I've taken one dose of each and so far nothing has changed...just very sleepy. It takes time.
I was suppose to go to the eye dr. at Wal Mart but had to cancel because of the drugs. Thought it best if I wait another week or two.
I'm sorry Jessie hasn't been feeling well...of course I'll keep her in my prayers. It has to be hard for you watching your daughter suffer at times. It would be scary wondering if it was a flare up or worse.
The purse I got was from Target....I love Vera Bradley, but just wanted a change. I ended up buying two purses...lol. They have such a big selection at the store in Lafayette.
Diana, if I remember right it was slow going the first week and then bam!!! The weight started falling off when I was on South Beach Diet. It's similiar to Atkins. I'm able to lose weight easily and fast at first....I always feel so good about it, but my plateaus are long and tedious and then I lose the ambition. So I end up gaining it all back plus.

I just checked my upper post and it says posted at 7:57 PM, but it's 9:59...hmmmm have to check this out.
MS is terrifying, especially when there are grandchildren too. Thank goodness for delusion and denial! And, antidepressants. I have learned to force myself to live in the present and to enjoy what there is right now. I also make myself put the worry in the back of my mind. Lately, I have been hearing how MS is a progressive disease though. I really don't want to hear about this!
Janet, how long are you on the prednisone for? What did the doctor say is wrong anyway?
Janet
06-28-2011, 07:45 AM
He thinks it could be a a nerve that's causing all the problem. Don't know if you all remember but in the fall of 2008 the stupid school nurse gave me my flu shot too low in my arm and caused me all kinds of pain.
Well I think on last Mon. or Tues. When I helped Mom off the floor I must have done something to make it flare up. My neck isn't hurting now so don't think the stiff neck caused it, but my shoulder and especially my arm whre the shot was given. The bump is still there too and is so painful. If the pain hasn't lightened up by this afternoon, I'm calling my Dr. Again because he is out on Wednesdays.
I do remember that! It took a long time to get better, right? Has it bothered you before this time?
I'm down to 130.5 pounds and I am seriously thinking about starting the transition phase of this diet. I have started having an extra bar every day. I started getting hungry again, and I didn't want to stress my body out anymore.
Janet
06-28-2011, 06:28 PM
It had bothered me before but just a tiny bit and didn't last long. This time it's awful.
I'm not doing well watching what I eat. I did drop 2 lbs, but can't it back with the pizza. I'm just really stressed right now because of the pain and my other pain (Mom)...lol. She's trying to make it a contest on who feels the worst I think. I'll keep trying and not give up. Ricky did say he would start walking with me, but have to feel better first.
Congratulations on doing so well Judy....good job. Geeee...I weigh over 100 lbs more than most of you!

Janet, I'm sorry that your arm is bothering you again. I'd ask the doctor about your shot area......I had a tetanus shot once that did that......made a knot in my arm and it took a long time for it to go away but it eventually did. You've had yours for a long time though so it probably needs looked at.
Judy, you're doing great on your diet!!! I'm really encouraged on mine because I have friends that are doing it and have done really well. They've been helping a lot on what to eat and what not to eat. I weighed yesterday at the doctor's office and I had lost a pound........BUT I had also taken my shoes off!!!!! Oh well!!!!
I had another test yesterday and should get a call either today or tomorrow on the results. I think that this one is going to show some problems.......we'll see, I guess!!!
Glen knows that I've been going in for tests but I haven't been telling him everything that I've found out. He's really bad at talking to everyone and I'm just not ready for him to start talking about me with everyone about my health. He doesn't see a problem with it but it bothers me. There's just some things that don't need to be talked about with everyone!!! I just keep telling him that it's blood sugar and cholesterol problems but it's actually a little more than that. I'm not worrying too much about it yet.......at least until the doctor says that I need to. I'm trying to lose weight and follow what she's saying for now. Getting old sucks!!!!!!!!!
Gayle, take your own snacks with you. Take some dip and veggies and some diet bars or something that you can eat and not feel guilty about. A dip that I like is a package of Knorr soup mix (or Lipton vegetable soup mix) mixed with 1 cup of mayonaise and 1 cup of sour cream. This is great with veggies or especially with pretzels!!! You can use the fat free or light stuff for this too. A week is a long time to try to do good though!!! Good luck!!!!

06-29-2011, 12:06 PM
Diana, I hope everything gets better!!! And thanks for the tips about what to do and eat this week. I'm going to try to do just what you suggested, take along foods that I know I can eat. I was going to take my 90 calorie rice krispy bars and I will, but I think I'll go to the store and look for more "packable" things I can take with me. Good idea!!! And I KNOW I can't be good the WHOLE week, but I'd like to minimize the damage.
DianaB
06-29-2011, 12:51 PM
I'm glad that I could be of help. Just make sure that you take enough to last you the whole week......or plan on going to the store to stock back up while you're there. You'll do fine!!!
When are you leaving to go to Oklahoma?
gja1000
06-29-2011, 02:38 PM
I'll be able to go to the store when I run low on something so that is NICE! We are leaving tomorrow - I have to go to work for a meeting in the morning and then we will leave, probably about 11:00.
It really is hard to watch what you eat when you are away. Taking snacks is a great idea! But, don't forget to enjoy yourself! You can be really careful when you come back.
Have a safe trip! I'm sure you will be taking your iPad, so you can let us know how much fun you are having, Gayle!
Diana, losing 1 pound is good! They say that a weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds/week is the healthiest. I hope your test results come back good!

I know exactly how it happens.......you and I weigh about the same. I am excited about this diet though!!! Maybe it's something that you could do too. It's basically very very low carbs. I get 20 a day but I'm not sure that I use all of them and I'm not hungry. I can eat quite a lot.....it just has to have low or no carbs. I had already cut out chips and potatoes and not much bread because of my diabetes so the transition to this has been pretty easy for the most part.
This is going to sound weird but I had two eggs for breakfast yesterday......ate half of a steak with a large salad for lunch......snacked on a package of bacon and finished the rest of it for supper with a large salad. I also had sugar-free jello. I can have cheese as well. Atkins has bars and shakes that are really pretty good so they help with the sweet fix. There's no measuring or counting calories......just watching carbs.....very easy. It's lots of protein and certain veggies!!
The plan says that it actually helps with lowering cholesteroland blood pressure:warning:.....that's hard to believe but we'll see. My blood sugar is doing so much better for the last couple of days.
This is a diet that I think that I can stay on for life......btw....I'm down 3 or 4 pounds this morning!!!!!! :cheer:
Drive careful, Gayle!!!!

Way to go Diana....I'm so happy for you. What you mentioned you hate....would have me starving. I did the SB diet and the lbs fell off, but if you don't stay on it, the weight all comes back. Way too easy to go back to the old ways of eating. I don't see a whole lot of difference between count carbs or counting calories....I still have to count..lol. Right now...during all this mess I'm living through....not sure I could do any weight loss program....in due time......in due time.

I have two books......one I bought at a garage sale.....
http://www.amazon.com/Atkins-Life-Complete-Controlled-Permanent/dp/B000F3T2UQ/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1309873914&sr=1-5

There's also a LOT of information on their website and a forum to talk to others.
Amy's started the diet lately and she had a really hard time with craving carbs but she said that yesterday the cravings were a lot better. I know that you have to stay on Induction for two weeks where you can only have 20 carbs and they are limited to certain foods but after that you can move on to Phase two.
I have a couple of friends that have been doing this for awhile so I've been picking their brain about what they can eat and didn't eat. Shani snacks on bacon all day and she's lost over 30 pounds and is almost to her goal. Her husband has lost over 40!!!!

I found a 110 calorie bar that I really like. Skinny Cow. There is a chocolate and a peanut butter chocolate. They are new I think. Skinny Cow has had ice cream sandwiches for a long time, but not bars. The bars are really more like a candy bar, so they aren't real filling but there are times when I just crave something that TASTES GOOD! These fit the bill. The only place I can find them are Walgreens Pharmacy.
I also like the 100 calorie Lance toasty peanut butter cracker sandwiches. It's perfect for my sweet/salty craving.
I did well at the lake for the first 3 days, then I began to lose some control and eat things I shouldn't - like homemade ice cream. OH MY! Gary's uncle makes the BEST ice cream and I had to eat some. I got back in control the minute I got on the road home. WHEW! Sometimes when I'm dieting, and I get out of control, I can't get back in. But I'm doing really well. I didn't gain or lose while I was gone!
Skinny Cow sandwiches! Yummy! I never had the new ones. Good for you that you started up again on the way home. Except for this diet that I am on, I only do portion control when I'm away. Come on...homemade ice cream! Life is just too short to give up something like that!

Yeah, but 4 cups of ice cream over 3 days, that's a bit much. I try to do portion control, but I just couldn't with that one. I would like to have had only 1/2 cup on two occasions.

Oh well, what's done is done and you're back on track now!!! Ice cream sounds so good that I'm not sure I would do very well if it were in front of me either.......especially if it had homemade chocolate on it!!! Yummmmmm........
Well.....I weighed the other day at the doctor's office and I've only lost 3 pounds. Bummer!! Oh well.....at least the scales are moving the right way!!! I think that I may have lost a couple of more but it's hard to tell because Glen and Dae Lynn keep resetting the scales on zero!!!! So I'm not sure where I'm at. I don't know why the scales dipped so far down on the one day.....maybe it was water weight.
Amy and Dae Lynn have decided to join me so now it's a lot easier. We're all looking for recipes and snacks and so it's exciting to see what one of us is going to come up with!!!
It is rare that my weight on my scale is the same as on the doctor's scale. Even weight loss is different. I only go by one scale (mine). Even if it is off, weight loss is going to be right.
Why are Glen and Dae Lynn changing the scale? Take it in your room, and tell them to buy their own scale! Tell them Judy said!

I'm so far off the diet wagon that I can barely see it in the distance. lol I guess at the moment I just don't want it bad enough or it would be happening. I do think that once I get my "happy" back it will be much easier. I'm so thrilled for all of you that are accomplishing weight loss, no matter how big or small.

I've lost 6 pounds and I'm happy with that. I have 14 more to go and they won't be easy, but for some reason I am motivated.

Janet, you'll get there. You just have so much going on right now but knowing you.....once you set your mind to something you get it done!!
Gayle.....6 pounds!!!! Woo Hoo!!! :cheer: That's great!!!
I went to the doctor this morning but I was still only down 3 pounds. Oh well.....I'll take it!!! My scale shows a little more than that but I do weigh first thing in the morning with my clothes off so that could be a couple of pounds difference.
I talked the doctor out of adding meds and changing things for a while. I really think that this diet is going to help in all of the other areas.
BTW.....I found out that I have "fatty" liver and a fatty cyst on my kidneys. Neither are things to worry much about as long as I lose weight.
Judy.....I may put a sign on my scales---"You'll have to deal with Judy if you adjust these scales again!!!!"

I'm glad to hear that things are OK, and getting better. Don't worry about what the doc's scales say, just go by your scales!
I "saved" calories today and we went to Schlotzsky's sandwich shop tonight for dinner. I had a smoked turkey sandwich and 1/2 bag of black peppered potato chips. YUM!
Gayle, I missed that you lost 6 pounds! Congrats!!!:):):)
Diana, you should put that sign up. They won't know what you're talking about, and we can have a good laugh!
Jessie was also told she has a fatty liver when she had that biopsy. She had to lose weight. Then she got MS, and forgot all about her liver. They tested her head to foot, so I guess it was okay.
I haven't lost more than a pound for the last 3 weeks. Then, I realized that I had upped the number of bars I eat by 2/day! I meant to up them by 1/day. I also have been eating 1/2 jar of peanut butter every night. So, now I am back to the right amount of bars, and have been having the peanut butter as my protein for dinner, and then veggies later. I don't think a plate of pb and broccoli would be tasty! I still want to go down a few more pounds from the 131.5 I weigh. I need a buffer zone for when I go onto maintenance.

Did you really mean you've been eating a HALF A JAR OF PEANUT BUTTER EVERY NIGHT! YIKES!!! That's a lot of peanut butter and a lot of calories!!!

I haven't lost an ounce!!!! But I haven't gained one either.....Yay for me!!!!! ROFLMBO!!!!!
I like Pnt Btr, but holy cow Judy....half a jar....everynight?
Pretty much! Maybe 1/3rd. I went down to 129.5 this morning, so I guess it's okay. I may have needed the fat after so long.
Linds, 4 pounds in a week? Excellent! This is the upside of stress!
Did you get to see Kate and William, by the way?
Lindsey
07-13-2011, 08:01 AM
I guess the stress is good for one thing! My skin is looking terrible though, I haven't had a bad breakout in a long time until now.
No I didn't see William and Kate! They skipped my province this time. Maybe next time! I thought it was really cool they went to the Northwest Territories... they don't get anything up there! William played some street hockey but he's not very good haha

Judy, you're right.....they wouldn't know what the sign meant.....but they'd get a laugh out of it too!!!!
I'm glad that you're doing so well on your diet. A half a jar of peanut butter seems like a lot but you've figured that out. I can't imagine being so close to my goal!! I picture the last few pounds as being really hard to get off!!! So good luck!!!!
I've decided to go by my own scales.....and if I do that then I've lost about 7 or 8 pounds!!!! I'm starting to tell a difference in my clothes.....not much but a little!! The girls have lost 6 to 8 pounds as well!!! We've got a friend at church that we're trying to talk into joining us. It's been a lot different so far with all of us doing it together. I've never done a diet with so much support from my family!!!
You are on a roll Diana! How great that the family is doing it, and losing too! I like that some of us are on a diet too. We have support from all over!
gja1000
07-13-2011, 05:00 PM
Way to go Diana!!! I think it is much easier to have a group doing it together! It's so great that you are doing so well.
Judy, whatever works!!! I bet you did need the fat though. Yesterday I didn't have any protein during the day and I ate a dinner that was normal for me, but by 9:00PM I was RAVENOUS! I only went over my calorie allotment by about 100, so I didn't do any damage, but I sure wanted to eat everything in sight.
Janet
07-13-2011, 05:16 PM
Not sure what happened here....but I got on the scales a little while ago and lost 3 lbs. I really haven't weighed myself for a few days...just figured I hadn't lost or gained......I must have peed alot today...ha ha ha. I've not had the appetite like I usually do. I'm not getting excited because it most like will be back tomorrow....LOLOL.
You all are doing so great!!! Keep it up ladies!!!

3 pounds is good Janet! You aren't gaining either!
Janet
07-15-2011, 06:36 PM
I haven't gained the 3 back yet, but I haven't lost either. I haven't eaten much except for some ice cream. I'm really not trying to lose yet, so any that comes off without trying is wonderful.

I haven't lost any more weight that I can tell but the clothes I wore to church this morning sure felt big!! I think that even though I'm not losing weight I'm losing inches. I'm still doing really well on this diet!!!
Janet
07-17-2011, 07:36 PM
I'm so proud of you.....wish I could lose weight...a lot of weight!
Hurray, Diana!!! :):):)
Janet, I really think you are under enough stress, and shouldn't worry about your weight too! In good time.... How is your arm, by the way?
DianaB
07-19-2011, 10:30 AM
Thanks girls!!! I just wish that the scales were moving.....but I'm still happy with the diet!!!
Janet, HOW is your arm?? What did you find out from your MRI?
Janet
07-19-2011, 04:36 PM
Haven't found out anything yet. I called the neurologists office, but haven't heard anything back. My appt with them isn't until Aug 1. Stupid to wait so long. It still hurts, neck, shoulder and arm. I just keep taking ibuprofen. It helps some. Thanks for asking.
gja1000
07-19-2011, 06:27 PM
It is insane to wait till Aug 1 to find out what is wrong. I'd be knocking down the door or at least on the phone till I got some answers. Waiting makes no sense. You can bet your bottom dollar if that doctor's neck was hurting, he wouldn't wait two weeks to find out what was wrong and start a treatment.
Janet
07-19-2011, 06:48 PM
You're right Gayle...he probably wouldn't wait. Since it was done on Thursday, I called today, but nor response. So...I'll call again tomorrow. I'm so tired of this on top of everything else.
gja1000
07-19-2011, 07:27 PM
I know what you mean, with everything that is going on with you, it feels like just one more thing like calling the doctor will push you over the edge. I've been there so many times when Gary wasn't doing well. My juggling happens with my work and trying to take care of him when he is in the hospital or feeling badly. I'm fortunate that I can do most of my work at home if I need to, but sometimes the stress gets to me, so I can certainly feel what you are going through. At the same time, you must take care of yourself and get this pain under control or you will be no good to your mom. It's a juggling act, for sure and it is no picnic. And now with the brother that might come over and sit with her while you are out, being sick, you really don't have any sort of backup. It's just so hard.
DianaB
07-20-2011, 02:07 PM
AUGUST 1st!!!!!!! That's ridiculious!!!! You get on the phone and let them know that you're in PAIN!!!!! The doctor should already have your results and should be able to do something about it. Go in and don't leave until you have an appointment that's a LOT sooner than August 1st!!!! Or give me the office number and I'll call them for you!!!!!!
Janet
07-20-2011, 02:11 PM
I called again, but again...no one called back. I don't think people work there...lol...all I ever get is their machine.
I think I'm going to call my reg. Dr. And see if he can find something out.
gja1000
07-20-2011, 03:39 PM
Janet, that just infuriates me. I can't imagine how anyone can run a medical practice like that. It just isn't right, nor is it ethical. I feel so sorry for you - I just want to come up there and rip someone a new one!!!
Janet
07-20-2011, 05:57 PM
Come on up Gayle and start ripping!!! LOLOL When I call their office...I get a machine that gives options to press 1, 2, 3 etc. One of the options is to speak directly with a nurse...so I push that button, then I get a recording that says "we check our messages regularly and will return your call as soon as possible. Please leave your name, birth date and daytime phone". Isn't that a joke? Did that for 2 days and still no return call. I think when I am able to speak with them....I'm gonna ask what the mean of regularly is.
We kind of got off track of the thread I'm afraid and sorry.
So....is everyone still doing good on their diets?
gja1000
07-20-2011, 06:18 PM
LOL! Yes we did get off track, but for a good reason. I certainly would complain that you have called for two days in a row and did not get a response. I'd let them know I wasn't happy.
Yes, I'm still doing pretty good with the diet - yesterday I had a melt down and was so hungry in the evening, I just over ate. I do that when I don't get a good balance of protein and carbs. If my lunch is very carby, without much protein, then I am ravenous in the evenings. I'm really hungry this evening, but I feel like I can eat a snack and be OK. Last night, once I took that first bite, it was all downhill and I couldn't stop.
I've lost 8 lbs so far so I am happy.
Janet
07-20-2011, 06:33 PM
That's great Gayle...8 lbs is a lot! I've been enjoying the cantelope so not eating alot of bad stuff. It's so sweet and juicy that is it satisfying my cravings.
Tiramisu
07-20-2011, 06:42 PM
I'm glad you all are doing well on your diets. I was all set to go to a weight watchers meeting last evening and my daughter called to meet her at chilis. Took me a few seconds to process ... See her and grands or the meeting!!!
8 pounds is great Gayle!
I seem to be stuck at about 130 to 131 at this moment. I'm still on the diet, and haven't gone onto the transition phase yet. I am eating too much peanut butter, so I am losing very very slowly.
Oh well! It's too hot to be hungry! I am fine with my weight, but don't want to stop yet because I will probably gain a few pounds when I go on maintenance. At my height, a few pounds show.
I do feel very healthy! I haven't had any toxins in my system since mid-April! Let me tell you, I feel the difference! My whole body feels good, and I feel stronger. I have not had sugar since I began. (I think the peanut butter has sugar, sorry!)
I would say it is all good.
DianaB
07-21-2011, 11:46 AM
I was down another pound this morning!!! By MY scales I've lost about 9 pounds!!! Yesterday I really cut back on drinking sugar-free drinks and I think that it may have made a difference but today I really needed my diet Pepsi!!! Amy has lost 11 pounds and I think that Dae Lynn's lost 8. I really think that you're suppose to lose more quickly than we are......but I know that for myself........my fat likes to stay on my body!!!! LOL That's very problamatic when you're trying to lose weight!!!!! :sidesplit:
I think that all 3 of you have lost a lot!!!
But, I do know what you mean about fat liking your body. Mine just will not leave!
Janet, I just saw that your doctor's office has not called back yet. How awful!!! Have you had any luck with them today?
DianaB
07-22-2011, 05:34 AM
I can't believe that they haven't called you back yet!!! Is their office in town? If so, then I'd go down there and speak to the receptionist. However calling your regular doctor and complaining might do some good too. They should be able to get through and straighten things out for you. Let them know that you're in a lot of pain. Makes me MAD!!!!!!
Janet
07-22-2011, 06:54 AM
It makes me mad too. The office is in Lafayette. I called my Drs. office and explained what is going on and they said they will try to get a hold of them today. I do okay most of the time as long as I keep taking the ibuprophen. There are times it hurts really bad and other time...I can handle it. Good thing I have a high pain tolerance.
gja1000
07-22-2011, 10:56 AM
The problem is Janet, that taking so much ibuprofen can aggravate your GERD. The faster you can get off ibuprofen, the better all around. It is inexcusable that you have had to wait for over a week for the results of a test that could show why you are in acute pain. It just is not right!
Janet
07-22-2011, 05:33 PM
It scares me some wondering if they might have found something else. Not sure what else to do. Guess I'll call again Monday. Well if the ibuprofen is bad then I'll try to do without. If it gets too bad, I do have some Loritabs left. I will never go to this Dr again.
DianaB
07-22-2011, 07:36 PM
When I had tests run the other day I was called in a day or two with the results. I figured that I would have to go in and talk to the doctor to get the results but it was nice because I didn't have to worry for very long about what was found. Can your doctor send you and your results to another doctor who can get you in sooner?
gja1000
07-23-2011, 06:00 AM
I am beginning to have trouble with binge eating in the evenings. If I don't carefully control my eating, I can get completely out of control. It seems sometimes that if I take one bite of something, then I can't quit. It's very frustrating.
Keep trying to find substitutes, Gayle. You will work yourself through it! Maybe you need more veggies, proteins or carbs at dinner?
How about frozen grapes? They are low points, and fun to eat. I used to put low fat chocolate syrup on cantaloupe cubes, or lo fat cool whip with chocolate syrup.
DianaB
07-23-2011, 02:42 PM
Fruit's probably a good idea. A little bit of sugar-free cookies or candy is good.....just don't overdo.
On the Atkins diet there are diet bars and shakes to snack on and they're REALLY good!!! I'm not sure if you're counting calories or what but you might check on them. They are sugar-free. The hazelnut ones are delicious!!!! I usually have a shake and a bar sometime during the day and even carry them with me especially if I'm going to be where other people are eating sweets. Then I don't feel so deprived.
Janet
07-23-2011, 03:52 PM
I haven't been watching very good at all here lately. Ricky and I went to Logan's Steakhouse in Lafayette for supper. He had the salmon and I had their wonderful Tilapia, it was so good and I'm still full.
DianaB
07-24-2011, 02:20 PM
Yummm.......I love salmon!!! We used to have a smoke house here that did salmon with a sauce.....oh...it was soooo good!!! I was so unhappy when that restaurant went out. :(
I've lost another pound so that makes 10 pounds so far!!! Yay!!!!
gja1000
07-24-2011, 02:42 PM
Yeah, I'm counting calories, so the Adkins bars have too many calories for snacking. I can do meal replacement with them, but not snacking. I did fine yesterday, didn't feel hungry or out of control at all. Today, I'm OK, but I can feel that I could get out of control this evening if I let myself. I think I'm going to get some sugar free jello with FF cool whip. I could go crazy with that and not hurt my calorie intake.
DianaB
07-25-2011, 12:38 PM
That's something that I can have too!! Good thing that I really like it!!!
I'm trying to come up with snacks to take to Lloyd's for the weekend. Amy had some really good things to munch on last night so I'm planning on making them.
Amy found a recipe that tastes like a muffin but it doesn't have any flour or carbs in it and cooks in a minute in the microwave!!! I had one for breakfast and it was sooo good!!! I think that I'll make some up to take with me for breakfast at Lloyds.
Amy also took pork skins and melted butter over them then added cinnamon and Splenda and it was good too.....plus she cooked slices of string cheese in the microwave and they were like little chips.....yummmmm!!!!! I love dieting with these girls!!!!

I am down 10 lbs. WHEW! This has been really hard in that I've been hungry a lot and trying to find the right foods that won't send me into a binge-eating fit. I've done really well this week. As long as I eat meat protein and carbohydrates for dinner, I do really well. If I try to eat meat and vegetables (the less carby ones like green beans or spinach) for dinner, I am over the top binging by bedtime. If I eat something like a lean pork loin sandwich on diet wheat bread (with high fiber), then I am fine all evening. I used to go to Luby's cafeteria and eat baked chicken, green beans, and cabbage and every time I'd be ravenous by bedtime. But I've discovered if I add a roll to that meal, I am fine. Of course that adds 130 calories for the roll, so I have to be very careful what I actually eat. That's the part that is really hard, finding just the right combination of food that will taste good, satisfy me, and not set me off into a binging frenzy. I have problems with hunger if I don't eat the right combination for lunch, but I won't go off on a binging frenzy like after dinner. That is probably partly because I am usually at work and can't binge too much there. :D
That's something that I can have too!! Good thing that I really like it!!!

JANET, I GAINED 15 POUNDS FROM SIMPLY MOVING THIS WINTER AND SPRING!!! Of course, you can't watch your eating, you are under major stress!!!!! Don't worry, when things settle down you can get on track! You just need to concentrate on getting through each day now. And yes, we love you too!!!!! :p
I agree with you Gayle.
Janet, you certainly should not put any more pressure on yourself right now! And, if food makes you feel better, I really think you should go for it!
If you decide to, you can think about your weight another time.
DianaB

The string cheese snacks were simply string cheese cut sideways into little circles and microwaved until they were slightly brown!! Make sure you do it on parchment paper so they'll come off. You can also sprinkle seasonings on them first.
I take string cheese.....put it on a plate.....sprinkle with garlic and parmesan cheese......then microwave for 1 minute until brown. Quickly take it off of the plate before it sticks to badly then eat!! It tastes like the cheese off of pizza!!! Yummmm!!!!
The muffin recipe is....
1/4 c. milled flax seed
1 packet of Splenda
1/2 tsp. baking powder (NOT soda)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
1 tsp. butter
1 tsp. sour cream
Mix up all ingredients in a coffee mug and microwave for 1 minute on high. Slice into four pieces and eat like bread!!! It's very good!!! You can also sprinkle Splenda and cinnamon on top before baking.
These both sound delicious Diana! Thanks!
The muffin is so easy! Do you use low fat sour cream? Probably, I could replace that with yogurt too. Or...half sour cream and half yogurt.
I am down to 128.5 pounds! I am slooooowwwwwlllllyyyy getting to a weight that will give me "wiggle room" so that I can go on the Transition and Maintenance diets.
