I think of you ever time I see that show is on TV, Gayle.
TV today is all about the storm. Very boring!!! |

I think that was the first one I saw. It's so realistic!
I've gone so long without a VCR or any recording device that I think I don't really need one. I watch too much TV the way it is without recording to watch more...lol. Two of the Real Housewife shows have ended their season and two more have started theirs and I really have gotten into them. Wish I hadn't, but too late now.
I found a new show called "Bid and Destroy".........it's interesting to me. It's where guys bid to take down houses and they also go in and salvage things out of it. They then take things that they've found to an appraiser to find out what they're worth. I would love to have that kind of job. I am such a scavanget!!!
I'm so glad that Halloween is over......I'm fed up with horror shows. They are just not my favorite! I like a good drama movie but not one that scares the pea-waddins out of me!!! I think that Rizzoli and Isles is getting some new episodes soon. I really like that show!! |
We added a couple more shows to our PVR schedule lol! We watch Malibu Country, with Reba, which is followed by Last Man Standing. I really like Reba and I really like Tim Allen :)
I just added those, too! Also Nashville.
Christmas movies have started!!!! :cheer:
My goodness, I think that last movie I saw was Marley and Me....lol. I don't care for movies much...some, but it's been awhile. I don't usually like Christmas shows either. Guess I'll just stick with my usuals.
After Halloween and all of the horror movies I'm so ready for some heartwarming movies!! Christmas movies are usually so uplifting!!
I like Christmas movies too, Diana. We always watch Christmas Vacation on Christmas day. I like the corny movie White Christmas too - the music is so pretty.
My son and his family like to watch Christmas Story!! I think that they can repeat it word for word!!
I think that I have White Christmas somewhere. I should get it out and watch it!! I have a Feature Family Films movie that I can't recall the name of but I always watch it at Christmas time. It reminds me of what Christmas is all about. Does anyone else have a favorite Christmas movie or show? |
Janet - BAH HUMBUG!!! :)
My favorite Christmas movie is Elf. I watch it every year and it just makes me giggle every time. My dad loves A Christmas Story. After a few rum & egg nogs, he will start reminiscing about parts of the movie lol! He loves the part with the leg lamp, and when the dogs eat the turkey, and the Chinese restaurant. Lol he is so funny when he starts talking about it and he's laughing so hard he can hardly get the words out. Oh and the National Lampoon movie is one of his other favourites. I just love watching Christmas movies with my dad! My mom just sits back and rolls her eyes. My dad said they should have named me Holly or Eve because I love Christmas so much. I even watch kids' Christmas shows every year! Especially the classics like the Charlie Brown ones. I almost need to have kids so I have a real excuse for it. I haven't seen any Christmas movies on tv yet! |
Elf is a good movie. I think that it's one of Dae Lynn's favorites too.
The movie that I couldn't remember is called Seasons of the Heart. It's set in pioneer days and is where a family is heading west in a covered wagon when their two daughters fall sick and die. In the movie the Mom is having a hard time with her loss......and a minister brings out a little boy who has lost his parents. The Mom keeps comparing him to her little girls who were sweet and cuddly......while the boy is ALL boy! She finally tells her husband to take the boy back to the minister but on the way to town he changes his mind and takes him back home. The boy sneaks some of the girls toys out of the house to the barn and sets up a nativity scene......and she overhears him talking about the baby Jesus. She realizes that he had been some other mother's child and needs a family and she then realizes that he needs her and she needs him. It's a very touching ending. I used to get movies from Feature Family Films which is from the Mormon church. They made some of their own movies and they were very good family movies. Several of them are still our family favorites. |
I forgot that I really do like White Christmas. I don't think I've heard of the Christmas Story movie.
Oh Janet!! Everyone should watch Christmas Story at least once!!! You're going to have to rent it!! It's got some pretty hilarious parts!!!
Did anyone watch Ken Burns' The Dust Bowl documentary on PBS? My grandparents owned a farm in northwestern Oklahoma not far from the epicenter of the dust bowl. I swear I don't know how they made it through all that. Thankfully, they did not pull up and move to CA. We still own the farm my grandparents managed to save. I've heard all the stories from my grandma and mom, but to see all the pictures and stories in the documentary is very enlightening. My life has been so very very easy!
Not heard about that one. I saw a documentary many years ago, but only remember bits and pieces. I love history so I would find it interesting.
I still like watching Miracle on 34th Street, (the original with Natalie Woods.)
Thanks for the link Jess, I'll try to watch it this weekend. |
The Christmas Story is my personal fav. Jessie used to put it on her VCR every night to fall asleep to! It is a classic!
I also love Miracle on 34th Street and White Christmas. Bing Crosby singing, and the scenery and beautiful outfits are such fun, and bring back great memories. Those were the movies I watched as a little girl. I never watch heart wrenching movies or TV shows, especially if they have children suffering. I don't know why, but I have never been able to watch suffering, even with happy endings. Jessie used to warn me if she was watching a sad movie about a kid, and I wouldn't go in the room. I couldn't even see Marley and Me, because he died at the end. It is very limiting to be such a sap! I didn't watch the documentary, Gayle. I remember The Grapes of Wrath though, and it was a fascinating part of history. |
Gayle, I can imagine that the documentary on the dust bowl days was interesting especially since you know that your family lived through it. I've never heard much of it affecting the people who lived here so I don't know if my family had to deal with the dust bowl. I'm sure that they had to deal with the depression since it affected everyone but I've never heard the stories of it......and my grandparents are all gone so there's no one to even ask about it. I guess I could ask my Mom if she ever heard any stories.....or maybe some of my aunts. They seem to remember things like that better than my Mom. Interesting!!!
All my series are over for now but a great one called Downton Abbey starts Jan. 6th (I think). It is on PBS and it won several Emmys this summer. It's a really great show!
Right now I'm mainly watching football and basketball on TV. I'm such a sports nerd! LOL! |
You DO like your sports, Gayle!!
I'm still enjoying the Christmas movies!! I can't remember what all I have recorded and have gotten several of them recorded twice!! It seems like there's not really been much of anything else on that sounds very good. |
I watched White Christmas and part of the Radio City Christmas (on Netflix) Sunday night. I enjoyed both shows!
I'm still watching my usual shows so far. Haven't really seen anything 'pop out' that I'd like to watch as far as Christmas shows yet. Still not quite in a Christmas mood, we had 70 degree temp Monday so even the weather doesn't know it's Dec...lol.
Had anyone watched any newer Christmas shows or specials this year? Any good ones?
I've watched so many but I can't remember any of the names. The ones that are Mrs. Miracle are really good. The are based off of Debbie Macomber's books. There are several of them and they're mostly on the Hallmark channel.
I've seen so many Christmas movies that I'm ready for them to be done!! I'm ready for some good dramas!! |
I watched Christmas vacation last night. It is soooooo funny!
I love those Chevy Chase vacation movies!
I caught the last hour of "It's a Wonderful Life," and loved it! Such a charming movie. Jimmy Stewart was so mean to his family in the beginning, but that was acceptable in those days. Did anyone catch the Sandy concert a couple of days ago? I can't believe I missed it! |
Judy, every year I watch It's A Wonderful Life when I am at my parents' house. Every year, my dad comes in to watch the end and every year he says "You know, I have never watched tihs whole movie before, just parts of it!" Sometimes when it is at the start, I tell him to come watch so he can see it all. He always ends up finding something else to do. I think it's just so he can keep saying he's nver watched it all
I watched the National Lampoon movie on Sunday as I was wrapping gifts! Last night we watched The Santa Clause 3. I saw that A Christmas Story will be on Friday night so I hope I have time to watch that! |
I went through the whole Christmas holiday without watching one Christmas themed show. I wasn't trying not to watch, it just didn't work out for me to. I did watch a show that I hadn't watched since it was on TV the very first time and that show was Roots. Such an intense show that I am so glad I watched again plus, it was the first time Ricky had seen it so it was sooo worth it. It was like 6 hours, I can't really remember...but long...and over two days.
I just started watching a new show last night (as if I need another to watch!) called Bomb Girls. It is a Canadian show so I don't think it's available on American networks. It is about girls working in ammunition plants during WWII. It follows 4 main girls, their relationships and affairs (with their significant others at war!) and the whole movement of women being involved in the war effort. I will try to keep watching! It's the start of the second season so I have missed a lot of character development but I'm sure I'll catch on!
Everyone is watching Downtown Abbey! I have to see it. I can get it on Amazon and watch on my ipad.
There is nothing good on TV right now! I guess the regular programs come back in a month or so??? I watched "Beasts of the Southern Wild," an amazing movie that was On Demand. I just loved it, and recommend it. The little girl who is the star is something to see! Then, I watched "The Words," which was wonderful. But, I had to Google what the ending was all about. After I read a couple of opinions, I realized that I liked the ending after all. The movie is awesome, until the end, which is confusing. Google straightened it out though, so I will put this on my excellent movie list. |
Oh Gosh Judy! Watch season 1 and 2 of Downton Abbey before Sunday, if you can. Season 3 premiers this sunday the 6th. It is SUCH a great show!!!
Of course I watched the Christmas special of Call The Midwife - it was stunningly great, just like the series! But I've been mostly watching football and basketball and will continue with basketball for several more weeks. |
That's a lot of episodes! I will give it a shot though. You are such a sports fan! Have fun watching the games!
Yes, Gayle, we all know that you love your sports!!! I wish that I enjoyed them like you do!!
There really isn't much on tv right now. I still have some Christmas movies recorded on my DVR but I'm so bored with them. I'm ready for some good dramas!! |
Do you have Netflix, Diana? I do not have it, but I hear it is wonderful.
No, I don't have it. I try to keep movies and shows recorded so I have something to watch when I'm ready. My TV is on almost all of the time. I like the noise of it. Mostly it's on cartoons!!! Imagine that!!!
I also record movies, even if I pay for them through pay per view. I just found out that, if you have Amazon Prime, you can rent a lot of movies and TV shows from Amazon Instant movies, and watch on your computer or your ipad. In fact, you can hook up your computer up to your TV if if has an HDMI port, and watch on your TV screen. I never tried it.
