Let's hope ya like this ya picky thing!!:p - you remind me of my youngest dtr. she is VERY picky-i'm always making her take vitamins cuz i know she isn't getting all her vitamins and minerals from the few things she decided to eat.

That looks wonderful...I'm going to have to start using the Crock Pot or Slow Cooker more. I don't like to cook that well, but a "mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do", ya know. I can't wait to try some of these different recipes.

Now "2tiredmom" is a wonderful cook and loves it too. I'm sure she'll have some recipes to add to this thread.

Here's one (we just had it tonight) It's simple when there isn't much in the fridge!

1 lg. can chunk pineapple (juice reserved)
1/3 cup vinegar (I use acv)
1/4 cup soy sauce
4 T brown sugar

Chicken pieces (stay juicier if have skin, but I usually use boneless/skinless & frozen from Sams)
Bell pepper sliced
2/3 cup uncooked brown rice

Mix pineapple JUICE and next three ingredients, set aside.
Place chicken in bottom of crock pot, followed by bell pepper, and dry rice
Pour mixed liquids over all.
Cook on high 2-3 hours, add pineapple. Cook until pineapple is heated through.

Eating veal and other animals AND the slow cooker recipes

With regard to veal, there is cruelty-free veal that is not raised in a confined pen. Secondly, we're talking about animals who are bred and raised to be eaten. They wouldn't be on the planet otherwise. Regarding "cow gas" aka methane, eat LESS meat, we won't raise as many cows, minimizing the pollutants.

Now on to the recipes. OMG  - I have never seen such vile sounding dishes. A bunch of canned vegetables in the crockpot is "soup"??? Re-cook frozen broccoli to death over pork and potatoes?

I'm still looking for one for my son - a slow cooker that is. What's your favorite brand/model/feature and why?

DianaB 10-19-2007 04:55 PM

I have only used a Crock Pot but I know that there's a lot of different kinds. Mine has a high, low, and warm. I really like having the warm feature and use it quite a bit. I use my Crock Pot to keep water hot for hot cocoa when my family is here sledding in the winter.

Does it pour or do you scoop the mugs in for the hot water? How clever!

DianaB 10-19-2007 05:05 PM

I use a measuring cup to scoop the water out. It works great because the water's all hot and ready when they all come in. I have a homemade hot cocoa recipe that we use in the water. My grandkids all think that Grandma has the best hot cocoa!!!!

This is a YUMMY dish!!!

TEX-MEX PULLED PORK

Sauce
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 c. bottled barbecue sauce
1 med. onion, sliced thin
2 cans 4.5 oz each diced green chilies
1/4 cup of chili powde (I know it seems like alot but trust me, it's not)
1 tsp. each ground cumin and dried oregano
1/4 tsp. ground cinnomon
1 2 1/2 lb well trimmed boneless pork loin roast
1/2 cup chopped cilantro

mix sauce ingr's in a 3 QT or larger slow-cooker. Add pork, then spoon sauce over pork just to cover.

Cover and cook on high 3 1/2 hrs or on low 8-10 hrs or until pork is fork tender. Remove pork to a cutting board and pull meat into shreds.

Pour sauce into serving bowl, stir in cilantro and shredded pork.

Terrific on buns, taco shells or rolled into flour tortillas
Optional - add shredded cheddar or Monterey jack cheeses, lettuce, tomatoe, sour cream, and black olives.

Enjoy
