Favorite Slow Cooker recipe???
Trying to get a collection of good slow cooker recipes going. What's your favorite???
|
:) About the only thing I cook in a slow cooker is the Crock Pot dressing. I do put meat and potatoes in once in a while, but not often. So a big SORRY from me. I'm sure someone here will have some great ones.

I make a vegetable soup in the crock pot. Not much to it though.
1 can of tomato juice 1 can of peas 1 can of cut green beans(I think its cut, I know its not french style) 1 can of whole corn cube some potatoes slice some carrots ground beef cooked and drained Drain all the veges then just stick everything in the pot, add whatever seasoning you like, I usually just do salt and pepper sometimes I get adventurous. You may want to add the tom. juice last though sometimes it won't hold a whole can so you can just add it to the leftovers later. edit---I think its kitchen sliced green beans maybe |
my dtr loves this crockpot recipe
Chicken Licken 6 to 8 chicken legs, thighs or breasts 3 tablespoons butter or margarine 1 large onion chopped 1 clove garlic minced (I just chop mine and i use more garlic too) 1 teaspoon salt 2 tsp paprika (i use more) 1/2 tsp ground ginger 1/2 chili powder (i always use more ginger and chili powder but that's just me) 1 can (16 ounces) whole tomatoes ( i use whatever is on sale diced, chopped whatever) i can (4 oz.) sliced mushrooms -don't need 'em if ya don't like 'em 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream - again i use more melt butter in skillet and brown chicken pieces. Place chicken in crock-pot stir together remaining ingredients except heavy cream and pour over chicken. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high 4 to 5 hours. Just before serving , stir in heavy cream and serve over pasta-we like angel hair pasta. i make garlic bread with this and we all pig out!!! hope you like it!!!:D |

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW poor little baby!!!!!! I can't eat venison either. My husband used to hunt, but I could sit on the porch and watch the deer..does, bucks and the babies and I could just never bring myself to eat it. I could definitely fix it for the boys...they'd love it and it's so easy to fix. :)

Now "2tiredmom" is a wonderful cook and loves it too. I'm sure she'll have some recipes to add to this thread. |
Here's one (we just had it tonight) It's simple when there isn't much in the fridge!
1 lg. can chunk pineapple (juice reserved) 1/3 cup vinegar (I use acv) 1/4 cup soy sauce 4 T brown sugar Chicken pieces (stay juicier if have skin, but I usually use boneless/skinless & frozen from Sams) Bell pepper sliced 2/3 cup uncooked brown rice Mix pineapple JUICE and next three ingredients, set aside. Place chicken in bottom of crock pot, followed by bell pepper, and dry rice Pour mixed liquids over all. Cook on high 2-3 hours, add pineapple. Cook until pineapple is heated through. |
WOW thanks girl, those recipe's sound lovely!! I will be trying out new things :D

Eating veal and other animals AND the slow cooker recipes
With regard to veal, there is cruelty-free veal that is not raised in a confined pen. Secondly, we're talking about animals who are bred and raised to be eaten. They wouldn't be on the planet otherwise. Regarding "cow gas" aka methane, eat LESS meat, we won't raise as many cows, minimizing the pollutants.
Now on to the recipes. OMG  - I have never seen such vile sounding dishes. A bunch of canned vegetables in the crockpot is "soup"??? Re-cook frozen broccoli to death over pork and potatoes?  |
I'm still looking for one for my son - a slow cooker that is. What's your favorite brand/model/feature and why?
|
I have only used a Crock Pot but I know that there's a lot of different kinds. Mine has a high, low, and warm. I really like having the warm feature and use it quite a bit. I use my Crock Pot to keep water hot for hot cocoa when my family is here sledding in the winter.
|
Does it pour or do you scoop the mugs in for the hot water? How clever!
|
I use a measuring cup to scoop the water out. It works great because the water's all hot and ready when they all come in. I have a homemade hot cocoa recipe that we use in the water. My grandkids all think that Grandma has the best hot cocoa!!!!
