Windows Vista??

Does anyone of you work with windows vista, or know more about it? If so, whats the difference with XP?

rivermom 12-11-2007 01:33 PM

We used to have XP but now have Windows Vista. And nope, don't know anything about it or why it changed. I'm so glad I was such a huge help to you!!! :D

Mandy 12-11-2007 01:35 PM

LOL!! I reallyyyyyyyyyyyyy appreciate you help XXXX Ok... tell me, does it freeze up often or?

Tink 12-11-2007 01:41 PM

I had the option when I bought my computer of xp or Vista because Vista was just coming out. I chose to stay with XP because it was rumored that Vista still had a lot of bugs to be worked out and I didn't want the frustration.

Sorry I have no wisdom to offer either.

rivermom 12-11-2007 01:42 PM

I've never had it freeze up on me. I just got Windows Vista this year, this past spring I believe...No problems (knock on wood).

Now...Funny you started a thread on this as hubby's computer died last Saturday so yesterday installed Windows Vista on his new pc. (hmmmm NOT a good day!)...So far all is up and running smoothly.

Mandy 12-11-2007 01:48 PM

Tink, thats what i had heard when vista first came out, i was standing in the pc store looking around, when i overheard a guy tell another lady that "it's got vista" but you could replace it with XP, so i wondered if it was still too new.

Sheryl, you are so bright for getting out of the way, and go shopping while they worked on your hubby's pc, it's sooooooooooo frustrating when they break down.

Oh no. That's not how it went. I was here. Hubby installed it here at the house with me still in it. LOL. I admit, I hid or atleast tried to. Life isn't good certain times when both hubby and I are working together on a frustrating project. One of which neither of us know a darn thing about. Talk about STRESS!!

And today's shopping wasn't even for fun. I had to go out and get our dental accounts their annual "thank you for your business" gifts. I'm not saying I don't wanna give to them, it's just not much of a fun shopping experience.

My husband has Vista on his laptop. I don't know if he likes it or not, but he is new to computers. I couldn't help him with it any because I have XP. Don't know if there is much difference or not...I just hope my computer stays healthy.

One of our daughters has Vista on a new Toshiba laptop with 2 gigs of RAM and is having lots of problems with it shutting down suddenly. Best Buy has checked out the computer a couple of times, and says that there is nothing wrong with the hardware, that Vista is the problem. Some have recommended that she get rid of the Vista and load XP. This was her first big purchase with her own money, and she is very frustrated and disappointed. They have offered to change out the computer but think that the same thing will happen to the new one. I'm encouraging her to exchange the computer and see.

Janet 12-12-2007 06:59 AM

Good idea Marilyn. Maybe Vista has been out long enough for some of the bugs to be fixed. Has she been able to download any fixes that are suppose to fix the bug? Maybe she won't have to take it back.

Lindsey 12-12-2007 03:43 PM

I have vista on my new laptop that I got in September or October... anyways, I haven't had any problems at all and it's not really THAT different from XP so it's not too hard to learn!

AngieDoogles 12-13-2007 07:47 AM

My new computer has Vista. I've had a few problems, but they seem to have worked themselves out. First, I tried to save a paper I wrote and when I opened the file later, there was NOTHING there! I searched and searched, but it was no where on my computer. Also, for a while, my computer would freeze every time I opened any program that accesses the internet--AIM, Firefox, etc. Both of those problems seem to be just fine now though.

Mandy 12-14-2007 02:09 AM

Ive seen them advertise windows vista basic, and windows vista premium, no idea what the difference is, but will ask.
Ya'll know me, and computers LOL

Janet 12-14-2007 07:14 AM

Gee Mandy, I didn't know there was two different kinds. Wonder what the difference is. Hopefully my computer will last a long time and I won't need to choose anytime soon.

Janet, i didnt know either, seriously, i dont have the foggiest idea when it comes to this stuff, i read it on the laptop ads, and seen it in stores.

judy 12-15-2007 04:12 PM

The only thing I know is that Vista has a reputation for having problems, but I don't really know.

Big help, huh?

Mandy 12-17-2007 12:20 AM

Im working on it now, but dont know if i like this pc very much, its got a built in webcam, thats about the only good thing, the keys seem all messed up. Gonna give the store a call as soon as they open.

rivermom 12-17-2007 04:50 AM

Sorry this has been giving you such problems Mandy. However, you will like the built in web cam.

Janet 12-17-2007 04:51 AM

I asked for a web cam for Christmas. Can you use them in chat rooms like the one here? I know you can use them on Instant Messaging.

Mandy 12-17-2007 05:00 AM

Hmm... dont think you can use them in normal chatrooms, but they great on IM.
