Laundry Tips!~Let's share!

This is the place to share laundry tips! Goodness knows there are some secrets out there that could benefit us all! I only have a couple and the best tip I have my grandpa taught me years ago:

Use cold water on blood (hot water sets the stain!)

Putting anything in the dryer sets the stain.

Use Lavender Oil (or similar) to get out oil (car, motor boat, etc.). On a cloth botch spot.

Please add!!

Pour some salt onto that blood stain along with cold water and rub. This helps tremendously. Shout is also an awesome product. Love Oxy Clean too. Hairspray works on any ink stains. I told you guys I love laundry. I am pretty good at getting out any stain.;)

Just thought of another one.... Adding a cup of vinegar to your whites keeps them from yellowing. The smell goes out fast if you use dryer sheets.

For our daily showers I keep only white towels, since white can be bleached to stay fresh looking.

When the kids were young I kept red washcloths on hand too in case they got a "booboo" since blood doesn't look near as scary to a child when it's on an already red cloth' and if they stained it hardly showed! ;)

I learned this from my grandma last year.. I had some grease spots on my jeans from work and she mixed vinegar with dish soap and scrubbed that into the stain using an old toothbrush. After washing again the stain was gone!

that's really good idea...my dtrs both get nosebleeds alot esp. in the fall and winter because fo their allergies and i swear it looks like they are losing two pints of blood- scares me and them although i know it's not that bad!!!:D guess it's time to start stocking up on humidifiers.:)

Simple Green (in the automotive section) helps with grease based stains (spaghettie sauce, pizza sauce, french fries - you know, eat a few, wipe your hands on your pants, the boys do that all the time!)

I've used Cascade Dishwasher Liquid in a load of stained baseball paints and it helps "boost" the Shout in getting the stains out.

Forgot to add your liquid fabric softener? Don't worry - take a damp washcloth, pour the amount of softner on the wash cloth, let it soak in, then toss in the dryer with your clothes!

Have your husband do the laundry!

blood is easy soak in cold water & the blood comes right out. Then wash. I had a bloody nose everyday of my life until I was in the 3rd grade. Every picture I have from when I was little if you look close I have blood on my shirt.

Tide sticks actually work, they took grease right off of my favorite khaki capris (don't ask me how I got grease on them because I do not know).

Goop will remove grease & manure stains

The way I do my laundry has always worked for me. I wash all towels, underwear, socks, anything really "dirty" in HOT water and dry it in the dryer. I was all t-shirts, pants, jeans, bras, delicates, blouses, ect. in COLD water and hang everything to try except for the t-shirts. I just think it's icky if you don't wash your underwear, towels, and socks in HOT water, but like I've said before, I'm a germaphobe.

Ditto!!

Sometimes when you buy new towels, they don't seem to dry the body as good as older towels do. Just add salt to the water it hardens them up a bit.

Oh this is a fabulous tip! I HATE the feel of new towels. I also hate those colored balls new towels leave on you when you dry off with them.

My son use to get nose bleeds at that time too and I was told to use a humidifier in the house. It worked!! No more waking up to a bloody nose.

Janet 09-23-2006 07:54 AM

I don't really have any good tips either!!! I always wash whites separate in bleach and hot water and then colors in warm/cold. I always wash my husbands underwear separate. I don't know how he does it, (well I do and I'll tell you in a munute) but he leave sh*t stains and chunks in his underware. I've told him and told him, but to no avail. NUMBNUTS!!!!! I just don't want any of that crap touching my undies!!!!

Here's the reason: Hubby takes two squares of toilet paper, folds them over and then wipes. I've told him to use more and get that damn butt crack clean, but he doesn't listen. GROSS!!!!!

I'm laughing so hard I HURT! Aren't we lucky it's only ladies here? Our hubbies would just die if they read our conversations.

Janet 09-23-2006 09:05 AM

Aw mine knows....I don't hide a whole lot from him..he knows I think he's weird!!LOLOL

Amber_lv 09-23-2006 04:12 PM

this is a great thread thanks for starting it!~!

Ponyup 09-25-2006 04:57 AM

It's not all your husband's fault I just think men can't clean themselves. My hubby uses a whole roll of toilet paper, plugs the stool everytime, & still has skidmarks. Maybe we should make them all shower everytime after pooping.

Marilyn 09-30-2006 07:30 PM

bump :D

Ponyup 10-02-2006 07:37 AM

Get the tide stick. I somehow got salsa on my coach purse   & I used my tide stick & it came right out. It's also gotten grease out of my khaki AE capris. I never really expected it to work, but it does. My hubby says it got set in paint out of his jeans also.

The only tip I have...if you hurry and take clothes (slightly damp) out of the dryer and hang them immediately, you don't have to iron! I hate ironing!

okay since it really works i'm gonna have to buy four or five- 1 for my purse. 1 for each of the girl's backpacks(they get messy at lunch!!!) one to put in my glove box and one to put in my hubby's glove box and probably make one into a necklace for me to wear!!! that's why i never get dressed up nice because two seconds after i walk out the door i get something on me-it could be dirt or a bird would s*** on me but it is always something!!!:p so i've just been a jeans a tshirt girl my whole life:( :( :(

Who irons?????? I thought we stopped doing that in the 60's when permanent press was introduced.

I let mine completely dry in the dryer and take them out immediately. No wrinkles!!:)
