I was so afraid I would be too late in putting my Hummingbird feeders out. They are usually here the first of May and I put it out just last week. I'm so glad they didn't forget me and travel on.

Here are some pictures I took today through our living room window.

Oh, I just wanted to say if you look at the feeder...the wind is blowing so hard today...and of course we're under storm warnings again. A tornado watch is also on for a couple counties just north of us....but hey, the sun is still shining here.

Love those pictures, makes me homesick for MN. I can't get humming birds in FL>

How beautiful! I wonder if hummingbirds are indigenous to upstate NY. If they are, I'll need a feeder too.

You don't like birds. You are such a good person - you still feed them.

Janet 06-06-2008 01:48 PM

Yes, I love watching them. I also have feeders for the yellow finches at my north window. As long as there is glass between us and they can't get near me, I don't do too bad...LOL. I've never wanted Ricky to be afraid of them and so far he isn't.

Nice pictures!! I haven't got my hummingbird feeder out yet. I'm still trying to get my flower bed done!!! I did finally get one side finished and when I get everything finished I get my feeder out. I have a honeysuckle vine where my flower bed is and I can hear the birds come and feed off of the vine while I'm out there. They are sooo cute!!!

I can understand, did you have bad storms? Worry about you.

Janet 06-07-2008 01:08 PM

They've been scattered throughout Indiana yesterday and this morning. It just quit raining here a little while ago and the sun it out now. I'm tired of bad weather.

Nice pics Janet,
We've got them up here too. THey are so fun to sit and watch. Especially when there are more than one and they chase each other.

I've got a window mounted Hummingbird feeder so I can watch them up close. I too love seeing them!

Great photos Janet, thanks for sharing!

We usually have them by the hundreds around here. I won't put feeders out until after the wedding. Too much to maintain. We have so many hummers around here, that you have to fill your feeders every day once they find them. They are soooo much fun to watch.

i have a couple by my house to, i have bird feeders everywhere too, i just got a new hummingbird feeder, just need to get the food to add to it, i think its just colored sugar myself.... my husband always complains about the bird poo, but i don't care i like looking at them, my one bird feeder i made in high school wood shop, my little birds built a nest inside they come back every year now :p

Marilyn 06-12-2008 09:29 AM

Haley, hummingbird food is just sugar and water. I don't have the recipe with me here at work, but you have to boil the water to make sure it is bacteria free, add the sugar, mix and let it cool. Refrigerate the extra. You don't need to add food coloring. The red color on the feeder attracts them and the coloring is not really good for them. You can probably Google and find the recipe.

Thanks Marilyn, i didn't put up a feeder last year, but i want to put one up this year, Micah loves to look at the birds and butterflies, i need to find a flower that attracks butterflies and plant a couple,, I thought that's all it was was sugar and water... couldn't remember.
