So Cold

The temp is below zero and the windchill of course is even worse. All the schools in the county are closed today....just too dangerous for the kids. I'm not complaining, but I just don't remember having days off from school because of the cold when I was younger. I spoke with Mom yesterday and she didn't either. She said she just made sure we were covered and sent us on our way...we walked about 5 blocks to school.

I slept a little later, because I knew before I went to bed that school would be called off. So today, I am planning on giving the babies their grooming and baths. They need it too!:)

donna1990 01-15-2009 06:08 AM

I can't believe the weather, it is cold here but nothing like it is their. My friends and family in MN are feeling -50 windchill.
Stay in and have a great day grooming your babies and take some pictures.

Blueyes 01-15-2009 06:49 AM

We are supposed to have a high of 40 today, which is cold for us. I can't imagine how cold it must be for you guys:eek:

2tiredmom 01-15-2009 10:18 AM

Our kids had a 2 hour delay today. But we have a day off tomorrow because of the grading period. It's bitter cold up here too. I hated to go to lunch.
:(

DianaB 01-15-2009 10:34 AM

Our temperature is around 9* today with a wind chill that makes it about -5* or so. We're finally getting snow but it's not going to be much more than a covering, but it is pretty to look at through the window. I can't imagine living any further north than this because it has to be cold!!!! We only get below zero once in a while, not for long periods. Everyone.....keep warm!!!!

Ponyup 01-15-2009 10:41 AM

It's supposed to get down to -13 tonight & then even colder with wind chill. We have my grandpa to dinner tonight, we usually go out, but we're staying in with him tonight.

HALEY 01-15-2009 10:55 AM

So what's for dinner? Hope it all goes well. How's the snow there?
We've gotten about 14 inches so far.

Waffles are the only thing that I can make that he approves of. My grandma was a wonderful cook so he got pretty spoiled all those years, but he loves my waffles.

We've probably gotten 10-12. We were supposed to get hit with some lake effect today, but we don't get it much anymore, unless the wind is just right.

They never cancelled school for cold temps when I was a kid either. I remember being snowed in out in the country & my parents snowmobiling us to the highway to get on the bus to go to school. They take it too easy on kids now a days.

donna1990 01-15-2009 02:06 PM

You can all come to FL and visit me. Cold, high today was 50 but is getting down tonight to 37.

DianaB 01-15-2009 03:49 PM

Donna, that sounds really nice but it's not hardly worth going out in this weather for. Now if your temps were 75*+ I'd be on my way!!!!!!

Girl, it is cold here, my heater is running. We have the damp cold.

Gina 01-15-2009 04:12 PM

Stay warm Janet, it is brutually cold here to 18 degree with a wind chill factor of -10.. Tomorrow another cold day.. brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Lindsey 01-15-2009 06:49 PM

No comment from me lol
Bundle up everyone!
My fingertips still don't have all the feeling back after freezing them in my gloves, shovelling the sidewalks after work today (3 hours ago!). It has been snowing every single day!

Lindsey, wear mittens when shoveling! Really makes a huge difference.. get a nice thick pair, you will never have frosted fingers again!

Cold here too.. brrrrr
Went out for dinner with a few friends and coming home it was -17 degrees.
School cancelled for tomorrow. I am leaving my water on all night... I don't ever remember it being this cold. Not a good time for busted pipes!

Janet 01-16-2009 03:20 AM

No school today either!!! Temp this morning is -12 with a wind chill of -27...brrrrrrr. I have to go get my hair cut at 9:30, so I'm definitely warming up the van....I don't care how much gas costs....lol

Marilyn 01-16-2009 04:37 AM

It's 41 deg here this morning, wind chill has it at 31. I hope it warms up soon. We have all the patio plants in the house right now. The actual temperature was down to 31 Tuesday night, and just don't want the plants to freeze. Some of them are left over from Melissa's wedding and we're keeping them for her until she gets a larger place (her little balcony looked like a jungle and when she brought all of them in their apartment was full). It's such a bother this time of year bringing the plants in, putting them out, then in a again. But, I'd much rather deal with this than the temperatures that some of you are, and moving plants is much easier than shoveling snow!!!!

Yes, I do have a nice thick pair of mittens, but Layla likes to eat them because they're fuzzy  Anyways, I cleaned out my closet and put a bag of stuff downstairs, and now I can only find one mitten. Either Layla took it and hid it for herself, or it's still in that bag!

Today we're supposed to get up to 0 degrees! A big change from -30 yesterday. Tomorrow is supposed to be +2! So things will start melting, and freezing again when it goes back below 0 a couple days later. I hate this time of year because of all the ice!

DianaB 01-16-2009 10:23 AM

Boy, you guys further north are really cold!!! We're suppose to warm up to 31* today. Still cold but not as bad as yesterday!!! We got enough snow yesterday to cover the ground, not much but it was pretty when it was falling. We're in a fire warning because things are dry and it's windy. Strange for this time of the year.

Lindsey, I just realized that your talking celcius and we're talking farenheit. I thought you were at 0 deg F and -30F. If things are thawing at +2, that's above freezing, above 32F. You're cold, but not as cold as we were thinking that you are. Maybe we need to start putting F and C after our temperatures. Love you, girl!! Don't freeze up there!!

lol sorry! I usually try to do the conversions for you guys but sometimes I get lazy. We've went from -45 to 0 (C) in a week. I went out last night on a pub crawl and didn't take a jacket :D I hate having to deal with coat check!

judy 01-18-2009 06:13 PM

It was -2 on my thermometer yesterday. I think it warmed up today, but it snowed all day. It snows every day - sometimes a lot, but mostly a soft snowfall at some point. My deck almost has now up to the top. I hope it doesn't collapse. Am I supposed to shovel it?

Stay warm everybody!

donna1990 01-19-2009 01:16 PM

It got up to 70 in Sunny FL today, beautiful, lots of sunshine, but we might get snow in Tampa on Wed.

Janet 01-19-2009 01:23 PM

It's going to get up to 40 degrees this week. Yay!!!! A heatwave!!

Snow in Tampa??? It snows in Tampa??? Really, I never knew it would snow there.

donna1990 01-20-2009 10:45 AM

It snowed once in the 70's, there was enough that it stayed for a while.

A "snow blower?"

I'm not digging out there. Lots of the homes here have the same amount of snow on the decks, so I guess they'll either all collapse or none of them will.

Nope, I said a "hair dryer"!!! I used to use mine to defrost the refrigerator it would surely work on removing the snow from your deck!!!!! LOL (Joking)

donna1990 01-21-2009 11:42 AM

No snow this morning but it is going to freeze tonight. My citrus trees are full of grapefruit, tangerines, oranges, etc. I have got to get up the courage to go pick some. I feel like I am in MN

We are not getting much snow just an inch or two, but it is cold . In the past we have had snowstorms and NO my husband never shoveled the deck. Don't worry nothing will happen.

This has got to be the coldest winter in many years. I don't recall it being so cold like this year.. Stay warm and safe!

Janet 01-21-2009 05:09 PM

We are suppose to get into the 40's tomorrow...YAY!!, but then another cold front is gonna come through.

Not long Janet, but in the meantime, come on down, it's supposed to be 78 tomorrow!!!

Janet 01-22-2009 03:18 AM

Oh wow.....78 sounds so nice!!! I want 78 here too!

Even though it's sooo cold....it wouldn't be quite as bad if the darn wind would quit blowing.

Yes, I despise the wind. Our cold snaps are ALWAYS accompanied by wind because it is the wind that is bringing the cold air down here. On warmer days, the wind never blows here. So that means on our cold days, it feels 10-20 degrees colder than it actually is. When you aren't used to the cold anyway, then it is blowing right through you, it is awful. Of course, I can't complain when the rest of you are suffering the cold almost everyday for weeks at a time. :(

donna1990 01-22-2009 06:39 AM

Will be 63 here today. I am still freezing.
