I'll have the summer off...
we'll it looks like i'm going to get my wish, i'm going to have the summer off, no big surprise! was just talking to my boss, we have 3 guys left of out 20, no steel sales, if it keeps up we will be closing June 1st..
I have my resume all updated. going to print some up this week and get them mailed out. My CC will be paid off this month, so i can make it on my unemployement for awhile. A little sad cause i worked here for the past 10 years. But i guess its time to move on. Move on to where i have no idea.. :( |
Haley, I'm sorry. I know how stressful it is to not be working. It can be a blessing in disguise too so try to enjoy your time with Micah. You seem to be a very smart young woman so I know it won't be long before you're working again. I'll keep you in my prayers.

That's what i'm going to do Janet, enjoy the summer with Micah, I can't control what happens here. who know by June Scrap prices might pick up again, but with Wheeling pit Steel closing, it looks ugly right now. and only 3 guys working is very bad, i never saw this place this slow before and i been working here 10 years. Like i said we will still have my unemployement helping us out. so maybe something better is in store for me, i'm already calling a couple people for jobs and i'm going to get my resume out there. The job market stinks around here. But i'm looking...
I can't get stressed out about something that didn't happen yet. Just going to get ready for it.. |
Janet i will get those pictures of Micah's Birthday Party, i just have to get a couple of things out of the way here...
|
Haley, I'm so sorry to hear about your job. On a brighter side, it will be nice for you to spend the summer with Micah. You can send your resume out and take your time in looking for a job. Hopefully you'll be able to get rid of some of your stress and just enjoy your time off. I'll be praying that a job will open up for you. Hugs!!
|
Thanks Diana, i knew it was coming - the car sales are down, scraps not moving the steel Mills are all shuting down around me.
Now its just a waiting game now... That's ok i'll sit here and look for another job. :p |
ps
the stress will always be there girl.... i just look around my town and see all the businesses closed, very stressful and more on there way... The only places that are going to be left is wal-mats, lowes, and the crappy fast food chains, who knows i might be working at one of these places soon, he he.. |
Have you thought about moving somewhere where it's not so bad? I know that there are areas that aren't as hard hit as where you are.

I can always go back to bartending, or go work for my sister if things get bad. So i'm just taking it one day at a time. i'm not going to make myself upset over it. Six of my friends are unemployed and more on the way so i'll fit right in with everyone else. It's just going to be so weird i been working since i was like 13 years old, (babysitting, cleaning houses, cutting grass etc) went to college and right after college got a job, been working ever since, never been out of work before, when i was younger i use to work two jobs all way up till i got married. That's were i got my money to put down on my house. I hate to depend on Mike for money i never had to depend on a man for anything in my life. It's just going to be an adjustment that i'm going to hate, but can't control until i find another job. i been looking everyday, all i see are sales jobs, warehouse help, and construction. i'm really thinking about sending my resume to some of the construction jobs, hey they need someone to hold the stop sign right? and they get paid damn good to hold that sign. LOL |
this was in our paper today !!!
Western Pennsylvania could lose 25,000 more jobs this year as the unemployment rate climbs as high as 8.5 percent, PNC Financial Services Group Inc. Chief Economist Stuart Hoffman predicted Tuesday.
The forecast follows a state report that joblessness in the seven-county region jumped to 6.5 percent in January, up from 6.2 percent a month earlier. About 89,000 workers were jobless. The federal government reported last week that unemployment rose to 8.1 percent in February, the highest jobless rate in 25 years. |
Too bad Haley that after 10 years, you may lose your job.
I think you have a great attitude though, and you will make it work. You have what it takes. Let the government support you with unemployment for a while and enjoy time with Micah. |
Haley, most everyone here has already said it all. So sorry this is happening. Wish you well in whatever happens. Enjoy the time with Micah!!!

I am sorry to hear about your job.. The economy is really hurting everyone in some way right now. Thankgoodness your hubby's job is still going strong. I think we are all worried and crossing our fingers that our jobs are safe. Enjoy your time with the little one while you can. :) As for the unemployment... I can't blame you you earned it so take advantage of it while you can. Hopefully you will be able to find a new job in no time! :)
I had no idea you lived in Pa. I am in Va so not too far away. |

You are close to me, how is it around your area? I bet the Steel Mills if you have any are all closed, and most of our car dealership and small businesses are closing? My hometown is starting to look like a ghost town now :( |
I know that the steel mills in West Virginia are starting to close up. I am not sure if we have any in my area.

Yeah I know. It really bites that almost everything comes form them. At least now when we grocery shop we have the option of buying the few USA made products on the shelf thanks to the new labels.
|
it's very sad, but it cheaper labor, and cheaper products, that's why were getting items with lead posionings etc. But as long as the American people keeping buying it they will keep shipping the tainted items over to us.
I try to buy USA products but very few out there anymore.. I can't even find toddler clothes that are made in the USA, toys etc. everything from China, even toddler dishes, cups, you name it... |
Maybe you should get a license to drive a school bus. Doesn't always pay the best, but it was so worth it for me to have all the holidays, fall and spring breaks and summers off with Ricky. I was paid all through the summer so that helped. Even if I didn't want to drive full time for one school....I could sign up to sub at other schools and darn near work everyday. Some offer insurance....some don't. I have great insurance. Plus if a driver wants to earn extra money...there are field trips and sport trips to take. Always something to think about even if for something to fall back on.

All our buses are automatics....don't need to know how to drive a stick. And it's not like you would have to drive one all the time...but maybe in-between jobs or just to have something to fall back on when you need it. I enjoy it most of the time, but I liked being able to drive Ricky on his field trips and sport trips too.
