Spring Is Time For Planting/Gardening
 

I LOVE spring time!! The warmer temps have started the growth of my tulips, daffodils, and other spring time bulb flowers. :40:


Then yesterday Chandra was talking about her herb garden. It has inspired me to head out tomorrow and gather all the items I need to begin my own herb container garden. I will place the containers on our deck which gives easy access to the fresh herbs.

Honestly, I don't have much of a green thumb. But I was reading up on herb container gardens and it doesn't sound too hard really.

Do any of you ladies have a garden of any sort? If so, what do you plant and grow?

I used to plant a really big garden when my kids were home and I canned a lot of it. Since we moved to where we are now the dirt is really tight and has a lot of clay and it's not good garden soil so my garden has to be quite a ways from the house and it's not convenient. I've asked my husband to build me some raised beds so the garden could be by the house but he won't do it so I quit gardening.

With the price of veggies I might have to give in and plant one anyway. Our fresh veggies at the store haven't been very good quality and expensive lately.

Wish I had a place to plant a garden, but for now we live in an apartment and we share our yard with neighbors. Ah, the joys of college life... lol

Ang. Get some planter boxes & put them out on your deck. They work well make it look nice & are usually easy to take care of

What part of Kansas are you from Diana? My hubby's family lives in Wichita. I remember when we were first dating and we'd go visit his sister there. She always had a garden in her backyard. I don't think she has it anymore.

I always thought the soil was better in Kansas. Here where I am at in Arkansas, it's nothing but rocks and red dirt. Can't grow crap! :(

The only garden I have now is a flower garden in my front yard. We had to bring in nice top soil and stuff being we couldn't use the dirt we had. It too is raised like you talked about.

I can't grow a veggie garden because we have too many rabbits, deer, and other critters who like to munch a bunch.

I really enjoy my flower garden though. :rolleyes:

Oh, and we'll be moving soon. I forgot about that till hubby just reminded me. We're hoping to have a big back yard for Marty, so I think I could spare a little room for a garden!

Sheryl not to get off this subject, but I do love you steps. I want to redo my steps and pavers in the front of my house. Is that limestone with brick?

Awww Gina, those are not my steps. :o The picture you see I posted is one i found off the internet this am while researching herb gardens.

But they are pretty steps aren't they? LOL ;)

Oh I love gardening! I do mostly flowers, but have strawberries, raspberries, and usually do tomatoes too. I have some pics of my flower gardens from last year online at: http://parenthood.dropshots.com/Tinkersweb in case anyone would like to see them!

I have only lived here one full summer, so got started on my perrennial garden just last year. I plan to add to it a bit every year until it's a flowery yard befitting a grandma. ;)

Tink your pictures are beautiful!! :thumbup: We started a perrennial garden about a year after building our house. Every year we take pics and it's amazing how fast everything has grown. (on one side of our house is a long slope. Not very easy or safe to mow if grass was there, so we planted bushes and perrennials instead.)

I agree mowing a slope is too much like work. It's also dangerous! I have an uncle who cut his big toe off when his mower rolled back over his foot. :eek:

I bet your slope looks prettier with flowers and shrubs on it anyway!

I absolutely love a casual cottage type lawn filled with plants.
