*Two moons on 27 August*

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting in August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will
cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be
sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth
has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

Cool!! Remind me again when it gets closer to the 27th or I'll forget!

Hi Tink!

My daughter sent this e-mail to me too....The woman that sent it to her checked it out on snopes and its false....It would be kind neat to see something like that though

Tink 08-12-2007 05:52 PM

really? ooops lol and the aunt that sent it is a teacher ans usually checks these out. lol well boy am I gonna tease her!

ok... well um NEVERMIND LOL

DianaB 08-13-2007 07:43 AM

Awwwww, shucks!!!!!

AngieDoogles 08-13-2007 01:35 PM

Aww, too bad it isn't real. That would've been neat!

Emmsmom 08-15-2007 05:57 AM

I got the very same email too. If you see Mars it should kinda look like a really bright star. It would have been pretty cool tho!.

Just to go down another road - I got word that snopes has a virus and not to use it.
This was last week.

I don't think it's physically possible for Mars to appear that large. It's too far away, and the Moon is very close. There's also a time factor. Light isn't seen here when it occurs in outer space. It takes time.

I'll stop now. I felt myself winding up to really get into this. I'm a total science nerd.
The nerd attack, luckily, passed.

How clever! LOL! I don't think you could get a virus simply from going to their website, but if someone wanted to pass that off as a joke and thought people would really believe it, they wouldn't be able to go to Snopes to see if it was just made up or not! Maybe I'm the only one who sees the irony in that. lol.

WOW JUDY!! you are one smart cookie!!:D

DianaB 08-15-2007 06:08 PM

So....Judy, did you teach science in school? I know that you've talked about teaching but I can't remember what you taught.

judy 08-16-2007 08:38 AM

I did teach science in high school and in college. I was going for a Ph.D. in Biology, but being a single parent and spending all of that time on my studies didn't cut it for me. I've never been sorry!

But...as we all know, being book smart and life smart have nothing to do with each other. Book smarts are easy. It's genetic. Life smart - not so easy!!!

Angie, you're right - how can a website have Another nerd! Yay!

LOL, I've been trying to tell people that about book smart and life smart all my life. I can make an A in any class or subject, but sometimes I'm just clueless when it comes to real life. lol!

I have a friend who is going for her master's in Biology right now. I've been trying to get her to join the forum, but she's just swamped with grad school work. Maybe someday soon she'll join and then the two of you would have a lot to talk about!

judy 08-16-2007 12:45 PM

I remember those days. All you do is school work. I used to bring home sharks, pig heads, etc. to dissect at home. My daughter would hide by the kitchen door and then slowly make her way in. Before she realized, she was involved!

Get your friend to join. She needs a break!

Tink 08-16-2007 01:10 PM

I wish I could claim to be "book smart" but never happened... I started having kids and struggling to pay bills when I should have been heading off to college.
I don't regret what I've done, but I would like to have been able to say I have more than just a HS education. Instead dh teases me that I've tried to collect state licenses and certifications through quickie courses. LOL

Oh well... I admire those of you who went that route. So pat your backs for me... at least you have the papers to show that you know something.
