Crockpot Dressing

I gave a quick once through in the recipe section but didn't find this...so I wanted to share. It is so good that my husband likes it year round.

It's so easy and really good. I was told by the person who gave me the recipe not to lift the lid till it was done. When it's done, you'll think it's too soggy looking, but after it's put in a bowl, it becomes just the perfect texture. I'm fixing it again this year for the third year in a row...everyone loves it.

Crockpot Dressing

1 cup butter or oleo
1 cup chopped onions
2- 8 oz. cans mushrooms (drained)
1 20 oz. loaf of bread (cubed)
2 eggs well beaten
1 cup chopped celery (optional)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 1/2 cups chicken broth
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. sage
1/2 cup parsley
5 to 8 cups chicken (cubed)

Thin mushroom soup with broth. Heat mushroom soup, broth and butter until butter is melted. Mix all ingredients together and let stand for ten minutes. Put in crock pot and cook on high for 45 minutes, then on low for 3 to 4 hours.

* Instead of 1 cup of butter I use 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup more broth.

Janet, thank you! That looks yummy!

highlans 11-20-2007 11:08 AM

What do you serve it with?

Janet 11-20-2007 11:23 AM

Turkey!!! LOL Instead of stuffing the bird, you just put it in the crockpot.

Ahh right call it a country difference:D

That recipe looks yummy, Janet!!! I think that I'll give a copy of it to my daughters.

Sheryl, you can probably cut back on the amount of chicken if you want to.

LOL Mandy - :D They are also known as slow cookers. They do wonders!!!!!!

Diana - Oh no, gonna add all that chicken, LOVE chicken. I just wanted to make sure that really was the amount. To me, it sounds like a meal in itself since it has the meat. Add a vegi and a fruit and wal-laaa dinner's done!

I don't had nearly that much since we are having turkey, but I still put 4-5 cups of chicken. I buy some of the chicken in the cans or pouches. It does make a nice meal by itself. Hubby loves this dressing and very little is ever left.

Mmmm! That looks great!

"I don't had" where in the heck did I go to school! Not sure what I was trying to say except I don't always put that much in, especially if we're having it for Thanksgiving.
