Red Headed Woodpecker

1 Attachment(s)
I was just sitting down to check 4WT and have been watching this Woodpecker on the feeder.

He's kinda been annoying as he keeps emptying out the feeder knocking all the food onto the ground just so he can find his perfect seed. The other birds sit and wait their turn while he does his thing.

Once he finds his perfect seed he takes it to one of our deck posts and smashes it open. Needless to say, we've had a hole in the deck post for years now. Oh well, he's gotta eat.

Anyway - was bored so thought Id capture the shot.

I wanted to add it's not a great shot as this was taken from inside the house...

Janet, you are soooo funny today!!!!! ........Spring?????

Sheryl, I have a bird feeder outside of my living room windows and they are interesting to look at. I also keep a pair of binoculars and a bird book handy so I can identify what they are. Thanks for the picture!

Maybe it was you and I that were separated at birth instead of me and Sheryl. I have the same thing. I'm even afraid of birds...any kind...doesn't matter as long as they are foul..have feathers and wings. BUT...I never wanted Ricky to have my fear so we've always had feeders and books so he could see what kind they were.

Good picture. We have several of them in our trees.

My Dad is afraid of birds too Janet. He always says "They're gonna peck your eyes out!". Mom and I tease him often. Especially in the summer when the hummingbirds fling about.

What a wonderful pic. We have feeders out too. I didn't have my camera out
the other day but we had 6 red cardinals at our feeder in the back yard. I love to watch the birds.

Thanks for sharing.

He's watched the movie called "The Birds" far too many times!!!!!

I know exactly how your Dad feels Sheryl, I am soooo afraid of them. My mom and I both can remember when I had a nightmare as a baby in a crib. I dreamt that there were chickens in my crib and on me. I can remember it like it was last night instead of over 52 years ago. It's one fear I've never been able to overcome.

I tried watching that movie Diana and thought I was going to have a fit. It was horrible!!!

I love watching the hummingbirds. I usually put those feeders out the last of March, first of April and we get quite a few. We also get a lot of the yellow finches. We had 7 sets of them last summer. We like using the upside down feeders. It's so funny to watch them land and then just roll over upside down to eat.

Great pic Sheryl! My sister (Traci) is horribly afraid of birds as well. We always tease her about it, especially since mom has one! :D :p

I'm taking a wildlife refuge class next Tues. on taking photographs at your bird feeder. I'll let you know what he says. Good picture! I put up a woodpecker feeder and two days later it was gone. The squirrels got it I'm sure. They are very hungry because we had a very late hard freeze last year and so had no nuts of any kind on the trees.

Cool picture! Our woodpeckers have a very different shaped head than yours. We have the "Woody woodpecker" type here. lol

I don't mind birds unless they swoop at you. THOSE make me mad.
For me it's BATS that send me screaming like a little girl.

Bats freak me out too Tink. Disgusting little flying rats, ugh! Only positive thing I can say about bats is they keep the bug population down. Other than that....I go running too.
