Maggie is Going to be A Mom!!!

I'm so excited, I'm busting at the seams, :cheer: we're gonna to be hearing the pitter-patter of little paws soon.
The proud papa is Oscar, the cute poodle from next door.
I can't wait to see what the puppies look like. I wonder if they'll have a long silky coat like Mag or short curly one like Oscar?
He's the Houdini dog that always manages to escape from his yard and find his way into ours.:dog:
I wanted to share the good news with everyone.:60:

WOW! Not sure if I should congadulate you or feel sorry that a poodle got a hold of your little girl. I know you are excited but being a breeder of Shih Tzu I would be horrified to have a poodle get one of my girls pregnant. Or any other breed for that point. Sorry that's just me.
What kind of dog do you have? I am assuming she is a Yorkie? Am I right?

katcarasella 04-01-2008 06:35 AM

Yes, she's a 7 # pure bred Yorkie, I'll have to post some pics of her, she's a little sweetie. i call her my little Mag-Pie!!

Serene 04-01-2008 06:54 AM

Well at least she is a larger Yorkie. Hopefully all goes well with the delivery. How old is she? And when is she due?

Congrats Kat! How exciting!!! :D Give the little Mama a kiss from me and my little babies.

By the way, thanks for the PM. ;)

I can't watch the video right now Tink because I'm in a computer lab and don't want to turn the sound on, but I'll definitely check it out later. I've always wondered what the puppies would look like if my little yorkie got pregnant by my Mom's maltese. They are both the cutest dogs and I just can't imagine how adorable the babies would be! She's 5# and he's 7#, but I think she'd do just fine. She had two litters before I got her and they were singleton litters so I don't think she'd need a c-section.

Wow. I kind of agree with Serene-how can this be good news? An unplanned litter, mixed breeds. I would worry about the health of MY dog, and be angry at the neighbor who allowed HIS dog to run loose. Plus, I guess working at an animal shelter tends to give me a totally different perspective on this.

I adopted a little 8mo Maltese girl and am so tempted to breed her (for just one litter) to my Yorkie boy (Yankee) when she's older. Would the pups be MALKIES? I've never seen a Maltese/Yorkie mix, but can you imagine how lovable that would be?! My daughter has a 2yo Bichon girl that we keep talking about mating with my Yankee. Guess that would be a BICKIE?

Some people call them Morkies or Yorktese. Malkies is a cute name too though!

Emmsmom 04-01-2008 08:32 AM

Awww how sweet! You will have to post some pictures as soon as they get here. You know they say that mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebred dogs. I have been thinking of breeding Diesel with a Shih-Tzu. I think they would make adorable babies! I am not fond of the small nose a Shih-Tzu so I think mixing the two would just be perfect. Congrats!

Didn't she say she was 7 lbs?
I thought the standard was in fact, 7 lbs.

Serene 04-01-2008 08:58 AM

Well Bless your heart! I am sorry that I hold myself to a higher standard and to think I was once called a BYB. I'm out of here.

NicoleMarcelle 04-01-2008 10:21 AM

congrats Kat!! give maggie kisses from Belle and I:) :p !! :)

as for the "larger Yorkie"-->the standard calls for 4-7 lbs, so she is in fact within the standard... "larger" would be like 15-20lbs i say! :D

I hope that some of these responses have been tongue in cheek - and that some thought is given to the welfare of the mothers and that the puppies will end up in good homes. As a person involved in rescue for many years, I've seen the sad consequences of people breeding dogs just to see what the puppies would like - only to drop 4 or 5 pups at the rescue's door because homes could not be found.

It seems some people are posting some outlandish things just to try to annoy others - why don't people behave more like adults and if you don't like someone, address it directly instead of engaging in schoolyard behavior.
