Well, I got my strawberries mostly weeded
and now it looks like the temp tonight will be around 27 degrees. They just started blossoming! So, we covered them with a tarp (most of them) and covered the peach and apple trees with sheets that we tied up. Can't cover the huge apple trees and they are in full bloom. Yuck. The azeala's were about to blossom out too so they're covered by towels. I hope everything makes it. Last year we had 20 degree weather for 2 days and no fruit at all.
Some of you north of me must be gonna get this weather too. Do you have anything blooming now? We also had company from Fri. till Sun. morning. I made a lasagna (Bob said it was the best ever- very spicy) and never mentioned I used venison. I wasn't sure if they ate deer meat and that's all I had in the house. We really enjoy visiting with them and look forward to seeing them next time. Hope everyone's been doing well. Missed being on the board. |
I hope it doesn't get the strawberries. I am also in TN and I love strawberries!!!!

I hope you were able to save everything!

I hope that your towels and sheets help to save your blooms and flowers. We're a little bit later than you are. I don't think that we have trees blooming yet so hopefully they won't be hurt. We do have some wheat that is heading out but my husband thought that they would be too far in the plant that it wouldn't hurt it. We lost all of our wheat crop last year, between the freeze that we had and the flood.

East TN. So glad you are happy with your move and things are better now.

Putting hay around the bottom of the tree may keep the ground cooler so it might possibly keep it from leafing out as quickly. I really don't know. I've never tried it. Hmmm.........I know that if you put hay around your garden plants it will help keep the weeds down and hold in moisture. Then in the fall you work it all into the soil and it really helps your soil too.
