Here's the new addition to our family. This Past Monday my husband and I went and picked up a pair of Sugar Gliders. Jack and Jill. The pics. are of Staphen (hubby) and Jack. I don't have any pics. of Jill because she was being grumpy and didn't like us waking her up so we put her back to bed. Also theres a pic. of the cage that hubby and I built them. We finally finished it last night. It's made out of Red Oak b/c it's the same as the trim in our house.... ENJOY

Please pardon my stupidity, but what are those? I have never seen those little animals before. Are they like ferrets?

I haven't seen them before....do they bite????:)

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you tell a little about them..such as biting, pottying, trainable????

There called Sugar Gliders. ( you can google the name and get alot of info) Alot of people think that they are flying squirrels b/c the look really similar but there actually from the opossum family. You find them in Australia and a couple other places. I've been wanting one for a couple years now. Theres alot of breeders of them around the US. They get about 5 to 7 inches in length in body and their tail is about the same size as their body. Their nocturnal but mine havn't woke me up any through the night. Hubby woke them up pretty early this morning and when he left they barked a little but it only last a couple min. (yes I said bark, it sounds like a puppy when they first learn how to bark...it's really cute) They can bite but since their so small it's kinda like a hampster bite. We got these on monday and neither one has bit us (knocking on wood..LOL) yet. They just like to crawl all over you. It takes a little bit of time to get them to bond with you, were still working on that but their doing good. Something that I think is neat is that they carry their babies in a pouch like a kangaroo...

Here's a pic. of when they glide..... and a close up

There not potty trainable, we just let them wake up and do their business b4 we get them out..... They are trainable, you can carry them around with you and once they bond with you then there suppose to stay stuck to you. They also have harnesses for them until they get copletly bonded to you so they don't jump away.

WOW ive never seen them before! :D

Janet 09-29-2006 01:27 PM

I'm not sure what to think of them. I'm not real thrilled with mice or bats and that's what they remind me of. Don't know if I could bond with something that kind of gives me the willys. :)

I agree, they do kind of remind me of bats because of their webbed bodies. They also look sort of like raccoons.
