more fired..

i was talking with one of my co-workers yesterday, she is also a lab tech. about quitting smoking, and it wasn't even two hours later i sent her an e-mail on Chanix its a smoking aid, and i couldn't get thru to her email it said undelivered, so i called her and found out that our company just fired her!!! Just like that... i couldn't believe it!!! They said it was because of the economy.. Wow people just don't care, her husband is on disibility and she has two kids to feed.

Janet 04-01-2009 05:56 AM

That is so sad. Things are bad everywhere and it doesn't look like it's going to get better anytime soon.

HALEY 04-01-2009 06:01 AM

i know Janet, i just feel so bad for her, i was just talking to her that morning...
We'll at least i made this cut, its like the 15 th and the last day of the month are firing days here.....
I'm not letting it get me stressed out!!! I'll be stressed enough next week when i stop smoking :(

Do you have internet access any where besides work? I'd hate to lose contact with you if your job changes.

HALEY 04-01-2009 06:55 AM

Yes Diana, i have a home computer, i'm not on it much cause of Micah, i try and check my emails over the weekend...
I called my old boss yesterday, he's going to have an opening soon in his company he said he'll call me when he gets back from vacation, its a long drive for me but the pay sounds good, shot anything is better than here, my days were cut and my pay tapped, so i'll take anything now... i have a family to feed... and bills to pay...

DianaB 04-01-2009 07:23 AM

I didn't know that you had a home computer, I just knew that you were on while you were at work and I didn't want to lose touch with you.

I think that you're probably doing the right thing by going to work for your old employer. Hopefully you won't have the stress that you have with this job. Good luck, Haley!!

HALEY 04-01-2009 07:28 AM

Actually, my home computer was a house warming gift from my mother... she got the whole thing, printer, flat screen monitor, the whole works... i just don't like the wireless stuff, Micah keeps taking my mouse and i still can't find it.. LOL....

HALEY 04-01-2009 07:30 AM

Haley,

So sorry you are going though this. I know what you mean. This economy sucks big time. This is another thread but here goes. my hubby lost his job a month ago. His family does not know. So it really sucks here too. Our county unemployment is 16 percent. Plus our Unemployment is Bankcrupt. So it really sucks here too. I'm praying for you.

Oh Linda. I'm so sorry to hear that you're husband lost his job. I just hate our economy being like this! I'll be praying that something comes open for him.

Linda, I'm so sorry to hear that your husband has lost his job, and Haley I"m sorry about your friend too. It's really hard right now.

Marilyn 04-01-2009 07:06 PM

Oh, Haley, sorry to hear about your friend. I have several friends who have lost their jobs. It's tough out there. A friend and competitor sent me his resume last week. He said it was embarassing for him to have to send it to me after all the years that we have been rivals and competed in our industry, but he needs a job.

Linda so sorry to hear about your hubby, too. So hope something comes along very soon, and before family finds out.

Our company is still hanging in there. Hours for a few people have been reduced at some branches, but no layoffs. There were some people who were poor performers who were cut, but even in good times, they would have lot their jobs. They won't be replaced for a while though and we aren't paying any overtime unless it is due to a customer's emergency.

Surprisingly, I am getting a bonus this month for last year's performance. It is lower than it could have been, and won't offset the losses due to my customer's bankruptcy, but it helps and is very much appreciated. It will more than cover the amount I pulled from savings to pay Melissa's tuition and books for this semester, and allow me to put a little extra back into savings, so that's a good thing.

I really think that things will begin to slowly improve over the next few month. Sales of durable goods are up. Sales of cars and homes are up a little. This is the kind of thing that drives the industry that I work in. My customers plants are running at a little higher rates. No one is buying much of anything, yet, but I'm thinking that the people who do still have jobs will begin to feel a little more confident that their jobs are stable and they will need that new car or decide to build that new home, and slowly begin to restart the economy.

There is an $8,000 incentive available now for 1st time home buyers that should help some people, and the housing market. There was supposed to be a $15,000 incentive for new home construction with no strings attached that would have really helped the industry, but some of the politicians opposed it, so it died.

Consumer confidence is the key, I think. If the people who have jobs can feel confident that things have settled down, and their remaining savings is not in danger and they begin spending again, hopefully things will begin to improve.

I don't know what Washington is doing. I'm so sick of the news and all the bickering that even though I'm a news junkie, I've stopped listening to it. They are all disgusting and I'm not sure anything any of them are doing is helping anything.

If you don't read this long post, I understand.

Haley, basically, hang in there. Sounds like you have a pretty good opportunity to keep working if the current job plays out. Hopefully after the recovery there will be even better opportunities for you!!!!!
