Dental surgery

I came home from the dentist a little while ago. They did gum surgery. Yuch!!!

It really doesn't hurt yet, but he said it will be "uncomfortable" for the next couple of days. I insisted on vicodin instead of motrin. I was supposed to get 10 pills, which would have been more than enough. They gave me a prescription for 5!!! They do not like to give that out. This snotty b***h of a dentist told me I didn't need it. I told her I surely did! I live 5 hours away and cannot come in if I am in pain! I really do hope she either stubs her toe, or drops something heavy on her foot, is in lots of pain, and has nothing but motrin around.:mad::mad: B***h!!!

Other than that, I had fun today. I just get more and more crazy? flaky? nutso?
I'm not sure what the right word is. I don't feel crazy, but I know you are not supposed to have fun at the dentist having gum surgery!!!! But I did. I had 3 dentists working on me, each trying to show each other up, in a fun way., I got the best of all of them, and we were all laughing. It is somewhat difficult to laugh with people working in your mouth, but I managed.

The only down side is that this procedure is not very promising. I really hope it works!

It sounds like you had quite the experience at the dentist's office today!!! I didn't know that you were having gum surgery. Did you know ahead of time or is it something that was decided once you got there?

At least you got a few pain pills. Hopefully five will be enough. Nothing helps you get through something unpleasant better than laughing about it!!! I'm glad you had a good day!!

Diana,
I just put it out of my head when I made the appointment, which is why I didn't post about it. Then yesterday morning, I just woke up and went. I figured if I thought or talked about it, it would freak me out. Now it's over and done with!

It seems that my gum won't cover the top off one of the implants that will show when I laugh or smile very broadly. They transplanted another piece of gum over there, and now we're all hoping it takes. If not, they have something else in mind. I don't know what. I don't have to pay for any of this. They took responsibility for the fact that they screwed up along the way. The doctor who runs the clinic is actually really a wonderful man. What they don't know is that the last dentist who worked on me there never wrote down quite a few of the things that he did.

Doesn't a gum transplant sound gross?

I am confused!!!! Why didn't they do the surgery before the implants???
Can't believe they only gave you 5 vicodins.
When I saw the Doctor yesterday, told him that anxiety is killing me, he said I had to go back on prozac.
They are all nuts.
Glad you have a good time.

They didn't know this was going to happen before they did the implants.

Luckily, I only needed to take 1/2 vicidin last night, and 3 advil today. It is not any kind of big deal.

It's uncomfortable, and eating is a bit difficult. I may take 1/2 vicidin tonight so I sleep through. I have a very high tolerance for pain anyway. Lucky me!~

Judy I don't want you to be uncomfortable in any way. I can't imagine having gum surgery...I don't even like going just for a cleaning....afraid they'll find something else to do while they are in there...lol.

Hope it doesn't make you uncomfortable for long.

I hate cleanings! They just buzz around with that painful little gizmo forever!
And, you are right. They always have something to say while they're doing it. "Oh, looks like we have a problem here that needs to be addressed."

This pain should only last for another 3 days or so. The novacaine injections finally wore off, so I need advil. It's not bad at all.

I think I had something like this done before. Where did they get the gum that they used? Mine was from the roof of my mouth. It worked great! It's kinda funny how many things I have forgotten about, lol! I'm glad your procedure is over with and I hope it heals quickly.

Five vicodin? That's just stupid:rolleyes: You should at least be able to have some left over..in case of an emergency, of course;)

Oh, Judy, so hope this works!! and so glad your pain is not too bad. I've never had much dental work, just fillings and two crowns, but really don't like having anything done to my mouth. I forgot about the wisdom teeth a couple of years ago. Now that was not fun.

Hope all of this is successful and over for you very soon!!

That's what I had Betsi! It just makes me feel yucky, thinking about cutting into the roof of the mouth. I hope mine works as well.

When they were talking about getting the transplant ready, and it was a little piece of my gum, I thought it was so funny.

Blueyes 06-01-2009 06:43 PM

It seems like it took the roof of my mouth longer to heal than it did the actual site that it was placed. Of course I couldn't keep my tongue away from it. lol! Take care of yourself!

Gina 06-02-2009 02:45 AM

Oh Judy... Gum surgery.. does it ever end??? I feel for you g/f. Vicodin never worked for me just made me feel like I was in la la land. lol what help me with the pain was Motrin the heavy duty prescribed stuff.

I hope that the gum takes and your be smiling again. I know from experience that when you start with dental work it never ends . The dentists are like mechanics they always find something wrong and want to replace lol.

Feel better!!

The roof of the mouth takes forever to heal! I once burnt the top/center with a hot french fry and I couldn't really eat for a month. They did this on the side, and they stitched it. The stitches last about a day. My tongue got at them.

Gina, you are right. 3 advil is the best. The first couple of days I took 1/2 vicodin at night.

Janet 06-03-2009 04:22 AM

I certainly hope you don't have pain and that you heal quickly. I just couldn't imagine.

Blueyes 06-03-2009 08:32 AM

How is your mouth feeling today?
