Swine flu
 

My granddaughter, Abi, has type A flu, which is assumed to be swine flu. She doesn't feel good, but she's OK. She started Tamiflu tonight so she should be fine. I was around her Saturday evening. The CDC says you are contagious one day before you show symptoms - so hopefully, I wasn't exposed. Her mom and Emma were here last night, but neither of them have symptoms yet, so hopefully, they didn't expose Gary.

I'm pretty sure I had the swine flu in 1976 - my daughter was a baby - about 4 weeks old - she was born Oct. 5, when I had a terrible case of the flu. I was nursing her so if it was the swine flu, maybe she got antibodies and she won't get it now. Maybe I won't get it either. Since I teach at a University, I'm exposed to students all day, every day.......

I read this on FB. I can't believe that she got the swine flu and its only Sept. I always thought that flu season was in the winter. I hope that the pills start working quickly and that she will feel better in no time.


I will say a prayer that you and Gary don't get it either. That's all poor Gary needs right now. Keep us posted..

The doc said the seasonal flu won't be here for a few more weeks, but the Swine flu is in full force! Said everyone in the household will get it - hope we don't!

Gayle, is the H1N1 virus a one time thing or can you relapse with it? Take care of yourself and your babies.

They told Brooke to take mom to the doc immediately if/when she shows signs/sympts. She should be able to start tamiflu quickly and should be OK.

I am worried about Gary, but there is nothing we can do...... except get to the doc if symptoms occur

I know you're worried about Gary. Mike has to go to the doc tomorrow for his 3 month labs and check up, and I hate for him to even go to the doctors office:eek: Of course they could get anything anywhere.

We got a call from the school saying that we have swine flu in the area and that the kids will be sent home at any sign of being sick. I didn't know that it was in our area. It does concern me with Dae Lynn being pregnant and Karlie having asthma problems.

I know that you two have to be concerned about your husbands. I hope that you're able to avoid getting the flu.

Yes Betsi, I just hate for Gary to have to go to a doctor's office - but he's in one almost every week or every other week! :mad:

Diana, the health care workers tried to reassure my daughter that her 13 year old would be fine, and so would the little one. Yes, there are deaths and the like - but deaths and serious cases also occur with the seasonal flu, we just don't hear about them like we do the swine flu. Of course, anything could happen, and it is a worry with Dae Lynn pregnant and Karlie with asthma - but most likely if they get it, they will be fine.

I looked at the CDC website and it says that high risk people are those that have heart, lung, kidney disease and/or diabetes. Gary has ALL OF THOSE!!! :eek: In reality though, the seasonal flu would hit him just as hard - although he has had his seasonal flu shot, so hopefully he will avoid it. I've cautioned him to call me immediately if he has any symptoms: headache, fever, body aches, chills, sore throat, dry cough.

We have the swine flu at our school All the schools in the county have decided that if 20% of the students are out, then that school will close. I don't think we have that many out, but there are quite a few out of school. I've had 4 on my own bus.

We haven't got the H1N1 vaccination yet, but the regular flu vaccination is due in this month. I've already started the Heptitis vaccinations. My next one is the 29th of this month. So much to vaccinate for....

I need to make an appt. for Ricky to get his vaccinations too.

I hope the flu stays away from your husbands. I did hear that the swine flu right now is a very mild case, but there is suppose to be a second round come through that is suppose to be worse. Heard this on the news.

Oh no!! I have a headache that started late morning and I have chills!! I took a tylenol for now.. No fever..

So hope your granddaughter gets well soon, Gayle, and that somehow everyone else misses it. The swine flu is all around this area. I heard that a high school football game had to be called off at one school because too many of the team were out with it.

I'm going to get my seasional flu vaccination today. Walgreens is giving them from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. without an appointment, and there is one right down the street from our office. Sure wish they'd get the H1N1 vaccine out and available. I'm big on vaccinations. Hate to get sick!!!

Hey folks!!! My daughter found an herbal flu treatment that is FDA approved. Maybe you all know about it, but I'd never heard of it, but it is Oscillococcinum. She bought it at Walgreens (pharmacy) - it's not cheap, $15. She researched it very well and found it to be safe and effective. She gave it to Abigail and she was a new girl in a couple of hours. It REALLY helped her to feel better. Brooke was feeling punky too, so she took a dose and says she feels lots better too. The clinical research says it does not prevent the flu but shortens its course. They say it is safe for people from 2-102 and that it does not interact with other medications you might be taking. I'm going to get a box for, "just in case".

My daughter caught swine flu back in July she had tamiflu thankfully no one else in the family caught it.
