I have several things I'm happy I have:
1. A music box my grandparents received as a 50th wedding anniversary present almost 40 years ago.
2. A lucky horseshoe that my grandfather had nailed over the door of the house my mother was born in - it's all rusted now but I still have it.
3. My mother's Mothers Ring - I had my boys birthstones added to it
4. Silver Dollars (in bank safety deposit box) that my grandfather used to give us for Christmas and birthdays each year - my mom always took them from us and gave us a dollar bill.....we didn't know until we were older that she was saving these for us
Although I can have them now - I've told my mom to keep them. It's in her will that they are in the box and she has them seperated in bags with each of our names on it. All I'm going to do is turn around, divide them between my boys, and put them back in the safety deposit box.
5. And last, but not least in importance, complete family tree history on my mom's mom side of the family and partial family tree history for her dad's family. It is very interesting to find out where my ancestors were from.
I guess you can tell from my posts that I'm extremely family oriented when it comes to preserving history and things. I've always been like that. Hubby calls me a "pack rat" - I call it saving things for my kids or grandkids
