I also voted she should lose the crown. As many of you have already pointed out, if what she had done had occurred prior to her entering the pagent to begin with, then I'm all for the second chance. But she was bar hopping and so forth AFTER she was crowned. Many, many young girls watch the televised pagents and many more are taken to local pagents to watch. These young girls are very impressionable and dream of being Miss America or Miss USA themselves one day - at the very least, representing their respective states. If they see someone they look up to doing things that we as parents try to teach them as being wrong, they don't understand why SHE can do it and they can't - I mean, if Miss America or Miss USA can do it at her age, then I can certainly do the same thing - WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!
I personally have nothing against the pagent industry. For some young ladies, it is the only way to potentially earn scholarship money. I know the Miss America pagent awards scholarships but don't think Miss USA does (could be wrong!). Like Rebecca, I too competed in a couple of beauty pagents in my younger days. And to the best of my knowledge, I am still the reigning Little Miss Walthall County - 1970!!!! It was the first year they ever held the pagent for the younger girls (I was not quite 7 years old) and it was the last. Now, I'm not sure if they didn't have it anymore because they knew they could not do any better than me or if by my winning I somehow ruined it for the other younger girls to compete the next year
