I grew up in a 3 room apartment, which meant that I slept in the hall on a daybed. It was a pretty big foyer - I even had room for my dresser and mirror, and I had my own closet.
In the summer, I remember my Father putting a fan on a little table facing me so that I would be cool. I kept that table, and it's out on my deck right now.
I had no privacy, but my Mother didn't think I needed any. She really wanted to know every single thing I did. That's why I was such a good liar!
I was kind of spoiled. I didn't get braces, or piano lessons, but my mother always bought me new, fashionable clothes. Of course, I was never allowed to pick them out. She did that.
My mother was very spoiled. She got clothes from the most fashionable shops, had a new car always, very expensive accessories, etc.
Truth is - I would have given up the clothes, and shared my bed and dresser for a brother or sister. I have always missed that, and I always will. My mother was sick and couldn't have any children - she had me against the doctors' advice.
I left home when I was 17, and at 19 I got my own place.
