Ice storm pictures!!!
So I finally got around to getting all the pictures off my camera...

Thanks for the pictures. We're use to ice storms in Indiana. Haven't had a big one like we did in '91, and it was a doozey!! No power for a couple of weeks and some even longer. As bad as it is and can be, it sure is a pretty site to behold.

Isn't it amazing how something so difficult and troublesome can be so beautiful as well? Having lived my whole life in Wisconsin, I'm convinced that Ice storms are just Gods way of telling us to slow down and unwind for a bit.  Even 4-wheel drive is useless on ice.

Wow, Melis' those are awesome. Folks can tell that we don't see this too often this far south. I really like the ice ball and the closeups of the foliage. Really cool!!!

How does an ice storm come about is it rain and a sudden drop in temp?? |

Thank you!! I'm really glad he likes them!!! I love photography, but not enough to pursue it as a career
 Since we're so far south we rarely see snow, but sometimes it does get cold enough to keep the rain frozen. Clouds are masses of frozen evaporated air, when it gets too heavy it rains and the ice thaws as it falls due to friction with the air and the increase in temperature as it gets closer to the ground. In the case of our ice storms it's too cold for the ice to thaw as it falls so it remains solid when it hits the ground, kinda like superficial hail. When it first hits the ground it looks a bit like snow, but as the hours go by the ice particles melt enough to form one huge sheet of ice that covers everything. As it continues to fall the other particles melt into the existing sheet of ice, and you get what you see in those pictures.

Wow thanks for that, we are fairly lucky with weather here not extreme of anything had a little snow last week but that had gone by the end of the day.
