A day from hades

If I didn't need my medical benefits so bad, I'd have not been able to force myself to stay at work today. It was an absolutely lousy day!

My manager informed me (as a woman was walking in the door) that he'd gotten a complaint from her and called her in to straighten it out. His tone and look told me that he figured the complaint was about me. I recognized her as someone I have waited on several times and did struggle to do a transaction for last week. I could feel my face reddening and I braced myself. Amazingly, her complaint wasn't against me at all! It was against the manager who filled in while Andrew was on paternity leave. She said the sub manager been rude to her and was nasty to me in front of her which she thought was uncalled for and unprofessional. Andrew was not happy to hear what she said, but didn't say anything to me about it after. He told the customer he would handle it and thanked her for coming in.

Later in the day, a man came in to discuss a problem! I had been working with him on a transaction last friday, and couldn't figure it out, so had asked the substitute manager to help me. She made a mistake with it, which resulted in todays complaint... he too was VERY unhappy!

We had an older man come in who had opened a CD with the substitute manager last week and HE was upset about the way it had been handled.

It was just one complaint after another today!
My manager told me that if I was able to handle these things we wouldn't need to have this woman coming in to fill in for him. I'm obviously NOT learning as quickly as he'd like. I'm so frustrated... I really am trying, but I'm not learning as fast as I used to, even though I'm really trying to.

I really wish I could find a job that's a NO-brainer like I feel right now.
I don't expect anyone to have any answers for my situation, but I sure did need to VENT!

I'm sorry things kinda sucked today for ya Tink! I'm at that age where I don't want to have to think real hard either...that's why I drive a school bus...lol.

Sometimes when we're trying too hard, it makes things more difficult. Maybe if you were to relax a little bit, it would help. No matter what job though, there are still going to be complaints. Ya just can't please everyone.

I do hope tomorrow is better for you!! And then it's off to start a New Year! It's gotta get better....right?

Oh wow - I had a job that sounded just like you're feeling - the best thing I can say is it WILL come to you - one day it just clicks but things take time ....I'm sorry for the day you had - there's nothing worse than being miserable at your place of work the days drag so so slow......but on the upside - at least someone stuck up for you !! It sounds like the managers need some attitude adjustment not you.

Don't people realize a relaxed HAPPY employee works far better than a stressed out one ?

Tink sorry you had such an awful day, But don't let them get to you. No one is indepsensable ... My job as a realtor is really stressful at times, I try not to let the job get to me, sometimes its easier said than done. But lately I have been dealing with the stress better. Remember we can be replaced at a drop of a bucket. Just do your best and it will all come to you. You will see.

Thanks ladies!
I telecommuted for 7 years and had no one interrupting me or standing over me while I did it. I know part of my problem is that I'm no longer used to being in the company of people constantly. They want the radio on all the time and I had it moved so I wouldn't have to hear it since it was right next to me before. LOL I made such a wonderful secluded hermit!

It stings that I can't seem to learn like I used to. I know part of it is menopause which will eventually pass, but it's SO frustrating in the meantime. My 29 yr old male manager isn't particularly interested in hearing about my "female issues" so I just keep that part to myself. LOL

It sucks that even though I asked for help with the things I couldn't handle on my own, I am now "at fault" for them being done wrong by someone who has been there over a year and is my superior in rank. I kinda feel like there's no winning right now.

I simply have to master this soon. I can't help but feel that each additional screw-up is just one step closer to my being fired. I've never been fired so would be just totally embarrased and devastated.

Tink, I know it's frustrating!! In time you will get it and be the one others come to for help when they don't get it. As we get older, we need to keep doing things that challenge us mentally. If we don't we are at greater risk of dimentia and other problems later. We have to keep our brains active and challenged. You're a sharp lady!! Wishing you a better day today!!
