well i my first set of nails was when i was 13 yrs old and i have had them on ever since i am now 25 there have been times that i have had them off for a short time 6 months is the max!! But yes they do ruin your nails my nails are so thin and brittle that i can't take and leave my nails off they hurt to bad but i love having them on so i guess it's a good trade off but you do need to be careful.
