Ice storm pictures!!!

Isn't it amazing how something so difficult and troublesome can be so beautiful as well?
Having lived my whole life in Wisconsin, I'm convinced that Ice storms are just Gods way of telling us to slow down and unwind for a bit. Even 4-wheel drive is useless on ice.

How does an ice storm come about is it rain and a sudden drop in temp??

Since we're so far south we rarely see snow, but sometimes it does get cold enough to keep the rain frozen.

Clouds are masses of frozen evaporated air, when it gets too heavy it rains and the ice thaws as it falls due to friction with the air and the increase in temperature as it gets closer to the ground. In the case of our ice storms it's too cold for the ice to thaw as it falls so it remains solid when it hits the ground, kinda like superficial hail. When it first hits the ground it looks a bit like snow, but as the hours go by the ice particles melt enough to form one huge sheet of ice that covers everything. As it continues to fall the other particles melt into the existing sheet of ice, and you get what you see in those pictures.

Wow thanks for that, we are fairly lucky with weather here not extreme of anything had a little snow last week but that had gone by the end of the day.
