Melissa, your right about it seeming like they are overreacting, but the universities just can't take chances right now. They are so worried about copycats!! If you do a little searching of the news, like Tink said, there have been bomb threats, people found with guns at schools, threats that they will make VT look like nothing compared to what they will do on a certain day all over the country. It's really awful!!

Tink, I've been watching the news about the same thing you mention about the government lying. I also saw a special on HDNet tonight about Iraqi refugees fleeing to European countries & they mentioned that fundamental Islam is spreading due to sponsorship of basically missionaries funded by people in the US buying gasoline. Without realizing it, we are funding the spread of Islam every time we gas up. Even if our gasoline is coming from South America or somewhere else, we are contributing to the world wide demand for gasoline which causes the fundamentalist Islamic countries to make more money and enabling them to spread their doctrine of hatred & terror. AHHH!! What to do? I'm ready to go solar & wind and drive a hybrid car!!!
