I can't believe you're graduating already! It was just yesterday that you were talking about having 2 years left.
Congratulations on your Summa Cum Laude! That will definitely get you scholarships, plus the fact that you don't live with your parents. Colleges really want good students, and they will take good care of you. I never paid a penny for grad school. Try to get a grad fellowship, with teaching hours. It's great to have college teaching on your resume. You can then also teach college part-time if you want. Once you have college teaching on your resume, they will hire you as an adjunct.

Great advice Judy.
Congratulations Angie!!! May will be here before you know it. You are so wise to go right on to grad school - you'll be accepted, don't worry!!!

Judy, I would LOVE to teach. It's my ultimate goal actually, but I think it will take several years to be in a position where they would want me. In social work, you have to have field experience to be valuable as a professor. The department doesn't have any students who teach classes. Also, the University has suffered major budget cuts this year and are expecting more next year. The Tennessee Board of Regents (the governing body over all TN universities and technical colleges) cut funding to ALL of the schools. I think the total so far has been a 13% decrease--which is huge. We have a budget task force coming up with ways to save money and they are asking professors to retire early and offering incentives for those who do. They are moving to more online class and more auditorium classes and reducing the number of hours the professors are working. Basically, they aren't hiring anyone right now and probably won't be until the economy starts recovering.

That's too bad Angie. A lot of colleges are only hiring adjuncts to save money.
You're on your way and that's all that matters!
