Its possible that if it was a long message, and takes over a certain amount of minutes to hit enter, it gets lost, thats happend to me a few times.

If it's just one leg, and the surgery is too expensive, I've got a friend with 2 3-legged dogs and they get around fine as if nothing is wrong. Dogs are quite resilient and once they get used to it they seem to completely forget that anything's different
