He was freaked out over his own observations because it was either Creationism or nothing at that time. Over the years, I also think many people have learned to see God's role in evolution as in everything else.

That's not to say that those who believe exclusively in one or the other are wrong.

When I taught high school Biology, I was very careful not to step on my student's toes. I would explain to them them that they had to know about evolution to pass the Regents. They did not have to believe in it. I always told them that it's usually best to believe what your parents taught you.

Most of them did believe exclusively in Creationism. I would never explain my personal beliefs to them. I told them it would only confuse them.

They were really good about learning about evolution once they realized nobody was forcing them to believe in it. I think that's the problem now - people want everybody to believe what they believe because they feel their own beliefs are right, and, therefore, the only way.
