here is the letter:

Karen,

I’m sorry you and your family could not join Micah in celebrating his First Birthday. He had a great First Birthday party!

I would just like you to understand one thing; I have rules in my house and I would appreciate it if you would respect them. Please understand that I do not appreciate people coming over to my house when I am not home. If they would like to visit Micah when I am there, please have them call me and I would gladly set up a time for a visit.

By you and your family boycotting your Grandson’s First Birthday, please understand that you hurt YOUR son, Mike, and missed out on an important milestone of YOUR grandson’s life.

Now it is up to you! Are you going to exclude yourself from Micah’s life and watch from a distance? Or are you going to take an active part as a Grandmother in his life? It is your call!

Let me know.

I think that you did a good job on your letter too. It's very hard to write a letter when you're upset but it turned out well. I'm sorry that you're having troubles with your in-laws. I have trouble with mine too. Any more I just keep my distance. I hope that your Mother-in-law gets over it and things are better between the two of you. Good luck!

Sometimes Haley, that by sticking to the main point, you can actually say more my saying less.
