So sorry to hear about this!!
I have finches and so far so good. Very easy to care for.

I was wondering.. by chance is cage near air conditioner? They cannot toterate a cold draft. When you said the other one is molting and puffed up I thought maybe a draft? They puff up when cold. Mine have never puffed up because of molting. They just drop feathers.
