They are like live oak in that the new leaves push out the old leaves in March - but they are much faster growing. I planted one in my front yard and it is growing so well, I am amazed. You can't beat live oaks, for sure, but the Monterey oak sure grows a lot faster and looks very similar.

We didn't get to the tree place today. I decided to clean house instead and Hubby's almost through with the new/replaced garden fence.

I'll definitely check into the Montery Oak and see if I can find them around here. THANKS
