I usually have Thanksgiving here at our house too. I know that I always have to get ready way ahead to get my house in shape for it. I like for it to be clean even if it's just my kids and their families and my Mom and step-dad. I have a fair sized home with a full unfinished basement where the kids can run and play without getting into too much trouble. It works out really good. Thanksgiving is the easy holiday....Christmas is the one that really stresses me out!!!

Janet,

Weren't you the one who posted on YT about making crockpot dressing? If so, can you share the recipe? I make just "plain jane" cornbread dressing the "old fashioned" way (in the oven) - this might be a nice twist!

Thanksgiving will be at my house, just as it has for the past 9 years. I really enjoy having everyone over and the cooking isn't so bad - it's the clean-up afterwards I hate!!! My older sister (who comes in from Pensacola) helps me clean the kitchen while my younger sister either sits on the couch or leaves to go over to some friends house - it's like she can't eat and get out fast enough!!! That's a looong story, won't get into it here.

My husband was just talking about this last night and can't wait for Thanksgiving just for this dressing. He wasn't a big dressing fancier, but is now. This is so good!! I had it posted in the recipe forum, but...........

Your wish is my command:

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I wanted to share the best dressing recipe I've ever had. My husband loved it so much he likes it as a meal anytime: One tip is don't lift the lid once you start the crock pot, (not sure why).

CROCK POT DRESSING
1 cup butter or oleo
1 cup chopped onions
2- 8 oz. cans mushrooms (drained)
1 20 oz. loaf of bread (cubed)
2 eggs well beaten
1 cup chopped celery (optional)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
2 1/2 cups chicken broth
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. sage
1/2 cup parsley
5 to 8 cups chicken (cubed)

Thin mushroom soup with broth. Heat mushroom soup, broth and butter until butter is melted. Mix all ingredients together and let stand for ten minutes. Put in crock pot and cook on high for 45 minutes, then on low for 3 to 4 hours.

* Instead of 1 cup of butter I use 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup more broth.

This sounds DELICIOUS!!! I don't think my oldest would touch it with a 10-foot pole (he doesn't eat dressing at all!!). And what I will probably do is use cream of celery soup instead of chopped celery - I use it as well as cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soups in my dressing. Thanks for sharing it!
