The only thing you can do....is if you are in her presence when she says something appalling or disrespectful....call her on it instead of letting it go.....I always ask..."why would you say something like that?"

Janet, that is an excellent suggestion! "Why would you say something like that?" is throwing the ball back into her court. And depending on your tone of voice, if not an "accusing" voice, but a questioning voice, then it might be interesting as to the answer you get! I really like that - and I have used it in the past in somewhat similar situations - actually I wanted to tell the person to "SHUT THE F UP", but "Why would you say that" is much less inflammatory!!!

These are the things that make me recall how happy I am to be divorced.

Diana sometimes in life we have to stand up for ourselves and say ENOUGH ALREADY! Just do it in a loving non confrontal way, just get the point through. It's one thing to have someone always pick on you but when it spirals to the rest of your family, it has to end at some point..

Right now things have quieted down about it. My family is a very forgiving family. If I go over and visit I may bring it up and let her know how disappointed I am in the fact that she called my SIL a liar but in doing that I will just stir everything back up again so we'll just have to see. This is a very hard family to be a part of. My husband can even see that.
